Chapter 106 Chapter 79: Massive Merit

106  Chapter 79: Massive Merit n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om

Ryoko Oogawa saw the estate ahead and immediately breathed a sigh of relief, her face showing a tired but hopeful smile as she ran swiftly towards the manor. At that moment, the estate gates opened and several Hummer military vehicles drove out, ready to welcome Ryoko Oogawa.

Yan Fei was about to catch up and finish off Ryoko Oogawa when he heard a noise. The motorcycle rider who had been motionless on the ground suddenly leaped up and clung to his thigh again. Yan Fei, eager to catch up to Ryoko, punched the rider's back furiously, punching a hole through, expelling blood filled with chunks of internal organs. However, the motorcycle rider did not let go of Yan Fei's thigh but held on even tighter.

Enraged, Yan Fei struck down with his palm, hitting the motorcycle rider squarely on the crown of the head. The impact shattered the skull and even exploded brain matter, finally killing him. But even in death, he still clung tightly to Yan Fei's thigh. Yan Fei shook his leg and tossed the rider's body far away, then sprinted towards Ryoko Oogawa.

Ryoko was covered in wounds, her clothes soaked with blood. Catching sight of her family's estate ignited hope within her, and she sped towards it. The Hummer Convoy, arriving to retrieve her, also accelerated to take Ryoko under their protection. Guards at the posts trained their guns towards the forest to suppress any threat from that direction.

Just as Ryoko was about to enter the protection circle of the Hummer convoy, she suddenly staggered, a steel ball unexpectedly lodged in her forehead, blasting a bloody hole. Ryoko's face, which was filled with hope, registered disbelief, and then she reached out towards the Hummer convoy ahead and fell straight down, breathless.

The Captain of the Hummer convoy arriving to greet her was shocked. Looking over, he saw a shadow darting in the distant woods before disappearing from view, leaving behind a slew of security personnel by the estate gates, utterly panicked.

After considerable struggle, Yan Fei finally managed to kill Ryoko Oogawa right as she was about to return to the Oogawa Family Manor, not only avenging himself but also eliminating the risk of his identity being exposed. With Ryoko Oogawa and Jo Oogawa dead, and the server containing data seized by Yan Fei, all analysts killed, he belatedly rectified the greatest weakness of his potentially exposed identity.

Hitting his target, Yan Fei quickly retreated and soon returned to the place where he was initially hit by a sniper's bullet. He found a large amount of blood on the ground - his own from before. This was his first time being struck by a bullet, and without any experience, he had splattered blood everywhere. However, he swiftly constricted his muscles to staunch the bleeding, preventing any further blood loss.

Yan Fei's identity must remain absolutely confidential, so he had to eliminate all remaining evidence. Surveying the range of blood splatter, he realized he couldn't thoroughly clean the blood in a short amount of time. Moreover, situated near the headquarters of the Oogawa Family, he could very well be pursued by them at any time. He didn't dare underestimate the Oogawa Family; after all, Hideo Oogawa had left a profound impression on him. No one knew if there were other powerful experts in the Oogawa Family Manor, which was one reason he refrained from entering the manor and unleashing a massacre.

Not daring to linger, Yan Fei opened the Universal Space again, took out a barrel of gasoline, doused the place with gas, and lit it using a lighter. A raging fire engulfed the woods. With the fire burning, all traces of Yan Fei's blood were incinerated, leaving no evidence behind.

Having dealt with any potential traces at the scene, Yan Fei started his return to Tokyo Downtown.

Meanwhile, in the distant skies above the mountain, the Drone Avatar and the F-2 Fighter continued their relentless dogfight. The Drone occasionally dived at the F-2, feigning an attack, but did not launch any missiles. The F-2 Pilot, cautious even after calculating that the Drone had already fired four missiles, did not rashly approach, still wary of the Drone's cannon rounds, which could intercept missiles. The Pilot, when faced with a dive from the Drone, would launch an air-to-air missile to obstruct, but all his fired missiles were destroyed by the Drone's cannon.

This way, the Drone Avatar and the F-2 Fighter depleted their ammunition without achieving any significant combat results. The Drone's Auxiliary Brain was continuously calculating the F-2 Fighter's weapon expenditure, and after the F-2 launched another air-to-air missile at the Drone, it didn't use its cannon to intercept it. Instead, it swiftly retreated, finally using a quick climb to make the missile hit a tree and escape the missile attack.

The F-2 Fighter Pilot was invigorated as he realized the Drone's cannons did not fire again, signaling that it had run out of weapons and could no longer pose a threat to him. Seeing the Drone accelerating, attempting to flee, he pursued without hesitation, aiming to shoot the Drone down.

Yan Fei feigned the loss of his weapons to bait the F-2 closer for an attack. His precise calculations indicated the F-2 Fighter could carry eight air-to-air missiles, but they had all been launched in response to the Drone's provocations. Now, without missiles, the F-2 Fighter intending to attack the unarmed Drone had to rely on its Vulcan Gun - but to use it, the F-2 needed to close in on the Drone, and coming too close to the Drone would spell the F-2 Fighter's doom.

The F-2 Fighter Pilot rapidly closed in on the Drone, still unaware that danger was imminent. By the time he was less than five hundred meters away and ready to fire the Vulcan Gun, he saw a flash of firelight beneath the Drone's wings as two more Air-to-Air Missiles were launched.

The F-2 Fighter Pilot was shocked, not expecting the Drone to have missiles. He tried to escape, but at such close range, with the Auxiliary Brain's precise calculations, the two missiles had already sealed off all escape routes for the F-2. He didn't have time to flee before he was hit by one of the Air-to-Air Missiles and exploded in mid-air. From the missile's launch to the F-2 being hit, the span was extremely short; the Fighter Pilot didn't even manage to react before he perished along with the F-2 Fighter.

Having dealt with that F-2 Fighter, Yan Fei had just taken a breath of relief when the Quantum Radar detected the presence of three more F-2 Fighters on the distant horizon. Facing such opponents head-on, Yan Fei had a hard time handling even one F-2 Fighter, and now faced with three, the odds of victory were even slimmer. Plus, this was Japan's home court; no one knew how many Fighters they would launch against his Drone Avatar. So, Yan Fei turned around and started flying the Drone towards Tokyo Bay.

The radar on the F-2 Fighters couldn't detect as far as the Drone's Quantum Radar. When they neared the battlefield, they found the Drone had already fled. The Drone had been flying low to the ground, and after the F-2s lost it, their radar simply couldn't locate the Drone again, allowing it to safely return to Tokyo Bay, where it submerged and went into hiding.

Meanwhile, Yan Fei was running swiftly, soon arriving where his Motorcycle had gone off the cliff. Climbing down, he saw his Motorcycle hanging in the crown of a towering tree, seemingly undamaged, which gave him a sigh of relief. He quickly climbed the tree, stowed the Motorcycle into the Universal Space, and then set off toward Tokyo.

Luckily it was late at night and the highway was sparsely populated, which is why Yan Fei and Ryoko Oogawa's pursuit went unnoticed. Otherwise, Yan Fei's plan to kill Ryoko Oogawa would likely have encountered additional complications.

Yan Fei's sudden strike tonight was not only a vent for deep-seated grievances but also thoroughly eliminated a major threat to himself, which left him extremely pleased. Shortly after returning to his rented place, he noticed a widespread lockdown of the surrounding streets, with police widely deployed and checking vehicles on the roads.

Yan Fei realized that his actions this evening were quite significant. He had not only killed two direct descendants of the Oogawa Family but also destroyed an armed helicopter and two F-2 Fighters of the Japan Self-Defense Forces, causing a major shock to the Japanese Government. That's why they were conducting a large-scale inspection in Tokyo Downtown's streets, looking for suspects to bring the murderer to justice.

Seeing the strict police checks, Yan Fei didn't immediately head to the Port of Tokyo to board a ship and smuggle himself back home. Instead, he chose to stay put for a while, waiting out the heightened scrutiny. After all, he had already accomplished his objective in Japan and wasn't in a hurry anymore; staying a few extra days was no big deal.

What Yan Fei didn't realize was the extent of the shock his actions had caused the Japanese Government. The Oogawa Family, having suffered a great loss, was seething with anger, vowing to catch the murderer of their heirs and avenge Ryoko Oogawa. Jo Oogawa's death was less of an issue since the family had not valued him significantly. However, Ryoko Oogawa was not only outstanding by herself but was also the linchpin of the Oogawa Family's alliance with the Yamamoto Family. His death at the family manor's front door was a great blow to their honor. Because of this, the Oogawa Family was about to face reproach from the Yamamoto Family, which would be highly detrimental to them.

As for the Japan Self-Defense Forces, they were scared witless. A small Drone, infiltrating Japan's homeland unnoticed, unexpectedly took down two fully armed F-2 Fighters and an armed helicopter in combat, and afterward, they couldn't find any trace of the Drone. This all was inconceivable. Aren't Drones supposed to be on the receiving end of a massacre when up against manned Fighters? How did it suddenly reverse, with their advanced manned Fighters becoming the ones massacred?

Yan Fei had returned to his rental cottage by this time. Although he had been hit by a sniper's bullet, his injuries were not too severe. By midnight, when the data refreshed, his wounds would nearly heal under the effect of Mysterious Power. So he was in a good mood, looking through the Auxiliary Brain at the gains from tonight's operation.

Firing missiles in Tokyo Downtown, he downed an armed helicopter, earning 300 Merit Points (300 points per helicopter); firing missiles to bring down two F-2 Fighters, earning 800 Merit Points (400 points per F-2 Fighter), and killed four military personnel including the Pilots, gaining 4 Merit Points, totaling 1104 Merit Points for the sortie. The cumulative Merit Points stood at 2954 points.

Yan Fei was very satisfied looking at his Merit Points. Ever since the Drone Upgrade to Level 3, the pace of gaining Merit Points had slowed significantly. But one sortie to Africa brought in 1387 points, and one to Japan 1104 points; just these two operations amounted to 2493 points. A few more operations like these and the Drone would quickly amass enough Merit Points for another upgrade.
