Villain Is Bodyguard of Heroine’s Poisonous Stepmother

Chapter 98: A Brainless Fool

Chapter 98: A Brainless Fool

The police visited the Wang family’s residence but failed to find Ye Chen, subsequently issuing a warrant for his arrest. Ye Chen remained in hiding, not daring to reveal himself.

“Now I have no choice but to do this. Chen Luo, you’ve driven me to this point. I swear I’ll make you pay,” Ye Chen muttered, feeling trapped and cornered.

That day, frustrated with his situation, Ye Chen finally left his hiding spot. He appeared at the Magic City Hospital, stealthily entering Li Ting’s special care ward.

Indeed, Ye Chen had decided to take Wang Hong’s earlier advice. He planned to plead with Li Ting for forgiveness and bear any humiliation necessary. At this point, his options were limited. Either leave Magic City, perhaps even the country, or seek assistance from the Li family. Turning the Li family from foes to allies might just diffuse this crisis.

“Li Ting,” Ye Chen’s voice roused Li Ting from her rest.

Startled, she gaped at Ye Chen, her expression contorting in disbelief.

“Ye Chen, you dare show up in front of me?” Li Ting hadn’t forgotten how viciously Ye Chen had beaten her that day, nearly to death.

Suppressing the revulsion in his heart, Ye Chen forced himself to look tender and loving at her, though inwardly he might have been battling nausea.

“I was wrong before. I shouldn’t have hit you. But I’ve realized something, I’ve truly fallen for you, Li Ting. Can you forgive me?”

If Chen Luo were there to witness this scene, he would undoubtedly have given Ye Chen a thumbs up.

‘Impressive, truly impressive,’ he would have thought. ‘Congratulations, Ye Chen, on mastering the art of stoically enduring humiliation.’

“Are you really telling the truth?”

The animosity in Li Ting’s eyes noticeably diminished. Despite resenting Ye Chen for assaulting her, Li Ting still harbored desires for him, especially recalling his robust physique. Or perhaps influenced by the protagonist’s halo, Li Ting genuinely forgave Ye Chen.

“I’m absolutely truthful. If there’s any falsehood in my words, may I be struck by lightning.” Ye Chen forced a smile, suppressing his revulsion.

“Alright, if you marry into our Li family, I’ll believe you. Do you agree?” Li Ting asked.

Ye Chen’s expression darkened upon hearing the suggestion of marrying into the Li family, but he reluctantly agreed, “I agree.”

It was a brave decision, considering it was exactly what he wanted to secure the Li family’s support to overcome his current predicament.

“We can register our marriage as soon as you recover from your injuries.”

Ye Chen’s plan was to delay. He was merely using the Li family and had no real intention of marrying Li Ting. After all, he found her repulsive and hadn’t forgotten the harm she’d once caused him. His plan was to break off the engagement once the Li family helped clear his name or perhaps even consider assassinating Li Ting.

“We don’t have to wait for my recovery, we can register our marriage right now.”

Li Ting’s chubby face quivered as she placed her hand on Ye Chen’s face. Ye Chen, struggling to contain his disgust, refrained from pushing Li Ting’s hand away.

Hearing Li Ting suggest immediate marriage registration, Ye Chen’s expression shifted, and he hastily responded, “Isn’t that a bit too rushed?”

“What, aren’t you serious?” Li Ting’s expression turned menacing.

“Fine, as you wish.”

Internally, Ye Chen was incredibly aggrieved. Marrying such a woman felt like a nightmare descending upon him.

“However, I have a problem. If it’s not resolved, I can’t marry you.”

“What kind of problem? With the Li family, it’s no issue at all.” Li Ting confidently waved her hand, fully believing her family could handle any matter.

Ye Chen then shared the predicament of being framed as a murderer. Li Ting readily promised to resolve it. Frankly, Li Ting lacked discernment, oblivious to the gravity of the situation.

Once his objective was achieved, Ye Chen discreetly left. Li Ting then called her father, Li Zhong, to the hospital.

“What did you say, you’re marrying Ye Chen?” Li Zhong looked disapprovingly at his daughter.

“Yes, I’m marrying Ye Chen, and he has agreed,” she confirmed.

“Do you realize what he’s involved in? He’s currently accused of killing Xiao Yongqiang. Marrying him… are you out of your mind?” Li Zhong was infuriated.

“He’s using you. Do you actually think he genuinely likes you?” he criticized, exasperated by his daughter’s naivety.

“I don’t believe you. Regardless, I’m going to marry him. He’s been falsely accused anyway. Even if he did commit a crime, can’t you just help him out? There’s nothing our Li family can’t handle.”

Li Ting’s voice held a mixture of desperation and defiance as she spoke, holding a fruit knife to her neck.

“Put that knife down,” Li Zhong barked angrily.

“I won’t. Unless you agree to help Ye Chen, I’ll die right here.” Li Ting’s words seemed earnest as a blood mark appeared on her neck, genuinely frightening Li Zhong. Despite his daughter’s faults and her unattractiveness, she was still his flesh and blood.

“Alright, put the knife down. I’ll agree to your terms. And ask Ye Chen to meet me.” Li Zhong gave in, prompting a look of triumph on Li Ting’s face as she discarded the knife.

“You’ve made a promise. If you go back on your word, I swear I’ll end my life.”

Li Zhong merely snorted in response. What else could he do in such a situation?

Ye Chen, summoned by Li Ting, arrived despite his suspicions.

“You’ve really managed to earn my daughter’s forgiveness,” Li Zhong remarked sharply to Ye Chen.

“Li Ting and I genuinely love each other.”

“Stop with the act. Do you think I don’t know your true intentions?” Li Zhong’s voice carried a tone of derision. He knew Ye Chen’s motives well, but as a doting father who always felt he owed his late wife, he had always indulged Li Ting in every way.

Even with his own son, he wasn’t as caring as he was with Li Ting because his son was from his current wife.

“I’m willing to help you, but you must marry Li Ting. If you hurt even a hair on her head, I’ll make sure you have nowhere to be buried,” Li Zhong threatened Ye Chen.

Ye Chen, however, internally chuckled at this threat. He had achieved his goal.

“What? The Li family is helping Ye Chen now? Why would they start helping him?” Chen Luo was baffled upon hearing the news of the Li family’s turnaround.

“According to rumors, Ye Chen might become the Li family’s son-in-law. That’s why they’re helping him,” Bai Meixiang reported to Chen Luo.

“Ye Chen really knows how to play his cards right. Li Ting, that brainless pig, always causes trouble at critical moments.” Chen Luo frowned, realizing that with the Li family’s help, Ye Chen might actually escape this predicament.

“Brainless pig…” Chen Luo couldn’t help but continue cursing Li Ting. Had he known this brainless pig would mess things up, he would have eliminated her beforehand.

“To deal with Ye Chen, it’s better to just kill him.”

“If only it were that simple to kill him.”

Chen Luo indeed wished to kill Ye Chen outright. His previous attempt failed because Ye Chen always seemed to unleash his potential and escape from Chen Luo’s clutches. Even gunfire couldn’t take him down. Chen Luo started to suspect flaws in the master-level marksmanship skills he acquired from the system. While he could hit others without fail, Ye Chen always managed to dodge fatal shots due to various unforeseen incidents.
