Chapter 394 - Break Free
"Ready?" Jake asked with a grin as he saw Aiden walking out of the cave.

It was now time for them to begin their training, and from the looks of it, both of them couldn't wait to proceed into fighting against one another.
Aiden walked up to Jake, and they faced each other. There was still clear tension between the two of them. However, it wasn't a bad tension…it was more an air of respect between the two.
Aiden really impressed Jake yesterday when he utilized Camouflage. Jake had never seen anything like it before in his life, and he had found it truly amazing from start to finish.
"So, what do you want to learn from me?" Jake asked.
'What do I want to learn?' Aiden thought.
He, himself, wasn't sure of the answer to that question. He thought Jake would be telling and showing him everything he knew, but it seemed things didn't work that way.
"Are you talking about in general?"
Jake's head slowly tilted. He didn't quite grasp what Aiden meant with such words.
"Just ask me whatever you want, and I'll answer to the best of my abilities!"
Jake wasn't its usual character right now. He actually wanted to help Aiden, which was why he wouldn't back down from any questions. He would be helping him to the best of his abilities.
"Then…could I ask for information about the System?"
Jake frowned. 'He doesn't want to learn how to fight and get stronger? The System? Why would he ask about that before we even start training?'
Either way, Jake just nodded a few times as he didn't think there was anything wrong with having more knowledge of the world.
However, seeing him nod, Aiden was hesitating whether to tell him or not. He remembered Maelis telling him that the Mercenary was probably the only one who would be able to answer all his questions about the System.
'Still…does he know about the Lumithars? If he doesn't…then that would be, well…quite weird. Ah, whatever, let's just try it.'
Aiden shook his head and finally looked back in Jake's direction. He was dead serious, not cracking the slightest smile. He was about questions he had on his mind ever since he had been in contact with the System.
First off, there was one thing that was still a mystery for Aiden…the awakening. The manner in which certain selected people would awaken and, as a result, become beings a hundred times as powerful as normal humans.
'Just who is deciding about that? How can one awaken?'
Aiden knew that the founding families had some techniques to help with the awakening. However, he was almost sure that they came from the Lumithars since the founding families are pretty much the only ones with such deep contact with the Lumithars…well, apart from Aiden, who received their help multiple times.
"Before I ask about anything in particular, I have one question for you. Do you know about the ones controlling everything about the System?"
Jake frowned. "Controlling everything? What do you mean by that?"
Aiden didn't give up just yet. He knew that it was a secret tightly guarded by many of the most powerful awakeners and there was no doubt Jake wouldn't reveal such information with such a simple question.
"What if I name the word… Lumithars? Does it ring a bell?" Aiden said as a grin formed on his face.
As soon as Aiden muttered that word, Jake's calm composure broke down for a millisecond…a reaction that meant everything. There was not a single doubt in Aiden's mind anymore. That man knew about the Lumithars. He knew a lot about the System…however, the question was…how much does he know about it?
"What did you say just now?" Jake said as he slowly walked toward Aiden.
He looked calm with a smile on his face. He looked extremely friendly, just like earlier, but that act was nothing but a smoke screen. Something was about to go down if Aiden did nothing.
Jake raised one of his hands and put it on Aiden's shoulder, slowly applying pressure on it. He slowly got closer to Aiden's neck, his breath brushing against it.
"Where did you hear that word?" Jake finally whispered as his grasp around Aiden's shoulder tightened.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
While this had been supposed to be basic training, it had been none of that. If Aiden were to utter a single word, that would go against Jake's wish. Then…death would be the only thing that he would be doing today. After all, Aiden was powerless in front of being such as Jake, who had trained his entire life to become the strongest awakener there was.
Knowing that he had to calm things down, Aiden made sure to calm everything as much as he possibly could, and he decided to tell him the truth.
"They sent me here. They contacted me and told me that I had enough potential to be sent to you. They didn't give me more information. That was it."
"What about those two girls? Do they know?"
"No, they shouldn't know anything about it. I brought Emma here, and as for Ava…I have no idea why she's here. You've probably seen how surprised I was to see her again…well, considering what we had told ourselves when we had last seen ourselves.
Jake didn't move for a few seconds, taking all of that information in. He had to admit that he was surprised that the Lumithars had revealed themselves in front of such a young boy who looked so…naive about this world. It was clear from a single glance that Jake could tell just how much Aiden ignored the world that surrounded him.
Pronouncing their name without the slightest fear…it was almost as if they were allies when it couldn't be further away from the truth.
After one full minute of thinking, Jake finally let go of Aiden and began walking away from him.
"Follow me. I'll show some things."
Aiden couldn't believe his ears.
Was he finally about to learn more about this System that keeps controlling everything in his life? Will he find a way to break free?
What do you think?
