Chapter 375 - Scared, Afraid of Death
Just thinking about it, Aiden was extremely happy about it. He would be able to get much stronger when he cut that stupid head off. In fact, he wondered why he hadn't done it yet.
He knew that he wanted to give the director one last conversation, but it was starting to get a bit long.
As Aiden was about to cut that head off, tired of that conversation, he felt someone touch him from behind him.
There was only one person who could do something like that at the moment, and it was
Evelynn had tears in her eyes that kept falling out of them.
"Aiden… what do you mean?! Strength isn't always the answer, killing isn't the solution. Just let him go!"
She was practically begging him. However, it seemed that none of those words reached him because, in Aiden's mind, they were all stupid.
"Strength isn't the only option?" He repeated out loud. He wanted to make sure that everyone heard how stupid of a statement this was.
Aiden turned around and looked at her with pity, "You're lucky, you know that, right?"
Evelynn was confused as she furrowed her brows.
"What do you mean? Why am I lucky?"
Aiden smiled since it was painfully obvious.
"Just look at you… You never experienced pain, you never experienced any hardships, everything in your life was practically given to you. But hey news flash, that's not what happens with everyone!"
Aiden took a break, taking a deep breath.
"You see, sometimes when you grow up and experience things. You have no other choice, but to do things that you don't want to. You're forced to do things that you would have never done before. You will experience things such as injustice, pain, and many others. When you experience those, you will understand that there is always one thing in common in all of them."
He took another deep breath.
"And that is… strength. Everything in life is linked to strength."
David who was only a couple of steps away from Aiden, didn't agree whatsoever since he had experienced such a life. He knew that strength wasn't the only thing in life that mattered.
"What about love or having friends? Are those things not important in your eyes?" David questioned right away.
Aiden looked back toward him, and he asked with a monotonous tone, "Do you really think I have a friend?"
"Just look at me for fuck sake, no one likes me. I kill people left and right, my only goal in life is to get stronger and friends are only secondary. They aren't the ones that are going to help me, I'm the only one who can change things."
"The only thing that friends or love can do is distract you from your goal. That's the only thing that can do. They aren't capable of anything else and that's simply a fact."
Aiden had experienced it many times in the past. He remembered all the times that he had gotten betrayed and it wasn't something that he wanted to experience once again.
However, once again, David wasn't in agreement whatsoever.
"Just find yourself better friends. Once you do, you'll understand how important they are…"
David took a deep breath as he was about to teach something to Aiden that would stay with him all of his life.
"You see, a life at the top can be lonely, especially if you're alone when reaching it. So try to reach it with your friends, you'll see that you will have a lot more fun when doing it like that."
Aiden discarded those words, not even thinking about them. He knew that they were untrue.
"Bullshit, friends only drag toward the ground!" He shouted.
He was starting to get angry because all his ideologies were currently in the process of being tested, and it was getting hard for him.
"What about me? Do you think that I hinder your growth?" Evelynn asked as she was getting really hurt by the words that Aiden was currently using.
"I only used you, isn't it fucking obvious!" Aiden shouted, not thinking about the words that he had just used.
"So, none of it meant anything?" Evelynn continued. "The kisses that we shared, they were only to help you reach your goals?"
She couldn't help but start crying as it was very hard to take in. The fact that everything had been fake from the very start was hard to take in.
"It was, I never cared about you! I only care about two people in my life and they aren't even part of this world!"
Right as he said that, Aiden put his hand on his mouth as he had said some words that he shouldn't have had.
"Aren't part of this world? What are you talking about?" Both Evelynn and David asked as they were extremely confused.
Aiden realized that he had made a mistake which is why he closed his mouth and didn't say a single word.
A few moments later, as both of them were looking at him wondering what was happening, Aiden opened his mouth once again.
"Well, I think we did enough talking, what do you say?"
David shivered, knowing that his end would be near.
"I-I don't think we did, I really don't think we did…"
He started crawling back toward the wall behind him, scared out of his mind. He had tried to keep his calm this whole time, however, now that he would be dying there was no way that he could keep it.
His mind was in turmoil, he thought about the things that he could do to barely hang onto his life, and he noticed that there was nothing at all.
"Hey, don't cry… everything's going to be fine."
Aiden smiled.
He wanted to make sure that the director would experience as much fear as Garestsa did back on that hill. David was the original target, after all.
'Well, farewell. This is how it ends, huh?'
David knew that there was nothing else that he could do, and when he saw the dagger approach his neck at a crazy speed, he knew that his head would soon be flying off his body.
He decided to close his eyes and regain his calm realizing that there was nothing that he could change at the moment.
*Plump*
David's head flew off its body and landed on the floor, rolling on it.
"Ah! This feels good, don't you think?"
Aiden turned around and looked at Evelynn who was shivering, scared that something like that would happen to her.
Aiden noticed that she was very scared, and tried to reassure her, "Hey, don't be so scared… I would never do something like this to you, don't worry about it."
Evelynn nodded with a lot of stress, almost shaking, "O-Ok… sorry."
"No need to apologize."
Aiden was about to continue to comfort her, but his focus completely changed target when he saw the screen that appeared in front of him.
Many messages from the system appeared in front of him, one after another.
'The rewards! Finally!' Aiden celebrated to himself.
Evelynn looked at him weirdly as he raised both of his arms in the air, celebrating by himself out of nowhere. He had just tried to comfort her, and he was now doing that.
'He really doesn't gives a shit about me, huh?'
She based that opinion on the actions and the words that he used recently and she knew it… she was right. That man in front of her held no importance to her.
Aiden ignored what was currently happening in Evelynn's mind as he looked at all the messages.
[You have completed the Fourth Trial.]
[You have leveled up.]
[You have leveled up.]
[You have leveled up.]
[You have leveled up.]
…
[You have obtained multiple rewards that will appear in front of you in the <Reward Room>.]
"How many times did I level up? Is that twenty times?" Aiden muttered as messages kept appearing one after another.
Aiden had some difficulty believing what he was seeing. The system hadn't lied those were some insane rewards.
He had just leveled up twenty times, something that had never happened in the past.
Also, having leveled twenty times meant that he would receive twenty stat points.
'This is crazy!'
However, before he could reach the rest of the messages, Evelynn's voice distracted him.
"Level up? What the hell are you talking about?"
'Oh shit, did I say that out loud?'
Aiden knew that it wasn't that big of a deal since Evelynn was his slave and she wouldn't be able to do anything with that information.
"Don't worry about it, it's nothing important."
He had no obligations to respond, and that's exactly what he would do, dodge the question to the best of his abilities.
In fact, he thought of something even better as he didn't want someone to question every single one of his actions.
"Just stop asking questions for 10 minutes."n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
Purple energy emanated from Evelynn's chest which meant that his order had worked.
Evelynn tried to open her mouth, but it seemed that no words were coming out of it.
"You said, you wouldn't use it like this!" She shouted.
Aiden realized that there would be another problem if things kept going that way, and he decided to give another order.
"Just stop talking for ten minutes."
Purple energy once again appeared around Evelynn's chest as no words were coming out of her mouth anymore. Every time she would try to say something, she would get a lot of pain around her chest, however, no sound would come out of her mouth.
