Chapter 113: The King and The Ruined City

Chapter 113: The King and The Ruined City

"Hey, you guys are supposed to be nothing more than skeleton soldiers. Why are you making me exert this much effort?" Glade said as he began decimating the army of [Skeletons] around him.

Right now, the king of Mythos is stuck in the middle of a valley. Mountains cover the whole area and, wherever he looked, there are [Skeleton] type monsters waiting to attack him. He would've chosen a different direction but, Pier insisted that it is the shortest route.

As he arrived there, skeletons began rising from the ground. The earth shook as their full number came to life. Glade didn't run away because, he knew that this is also part of Pier's plan. If he ran, it would probably entertain the god. So he did the opposite, he stood still waiting for their full number to come out.

There are various kinds to these creatures which he is currently fighting. There are even [Skeleton Mages], [Skeleton Hounds], [Skeleton Chivalry] and others. This in itself would've bene a breeze for Glade but, the problem are the leaders of the group. Two figures towered on top of the mountains. They scream in rage because they are forced to stay on the ground. Their eyes gleamed an undead green, imitated by all skeleton soldiers. Their tail wraps the top of the mountains and, their claws release a poison like liquid, flowing down the mountains and into the valley.

"Come one, I'm sure you're aware that this land is already forgotten by the gods right? No need to be so angry about it." Glade said, taking out a giant bow and loading five arrows made of pure mana unto them.

On each arrow is a different element infused. Glade wanted to make sure of one thing before going all out and that is, the elemental weakness of his opponents. Also, he analyzed the situation carefully, thinking of there'd be any conditional activations that would come from any of his actions.

The arrows immediately found their way to their targets. Each was able to deal a significant amount of damage but, it is the [Light] attributed arrow which was able to produce the most effect. At this Glade smiled.

"Your attribute is definitely corrupted." Glade continued, bringing out two spears which are coated with [Light] attribute. He added ten more skills to them before throwing the weapons toward his enemies.

Immediately, hundreds of the skeleton soldiers have been crushed by Glade. He continued by using [Area Freeze], jamming any kind of trap around the battlefield he is in. The king continued by using his mana to make him float up on the sky, bringing another spear with him.

[Damage Amplification]

[AoE Expansion]

[Effect Multiplier x4]

[Effect Multiplier x3]

[Effect Multiplier x2]

[King's Triumph]

[Death's Door]

[Heaven's Blessing]

With all the skills he used, Glade threw the spear down the valley. It didn't take long for the whole place to be covered with light, angering the two dragons who watched all their troops go down.

"Oh don't be such crybabies. You'll be coming next." Glade said, creating a barrier that blocked the corrosive flames crated by the dragons. These are strong enough to burn even magma and yet, Glade is able to handle them perfectly well without even breaking a sweat.

"Mirror." Glade continued, reflecting the attack of the dragons back to them. The flames quickly crept up the creatures but, just as he expected, they are immune to it.

"Okay let's try something else then." He said, getting near one and stabbing a spear on the opponent's skull.

He then placed the same spear on the other dragon and, floated in between the two. Then, the clouds above swirled ominously as the sound of thunder began. The dragons couldn't even do anything against the attack as Glade said:

"Lightning Dragon."

The spears served as rods for the attack, accurately pinpointing the target which devastated the [Bone Dragons]. There was nothing left from the attack but ashes of the enemies, and Glade went back to the valley with a completely wiped out skeleton army.

"I should get going." He said to himself, following the map provided by Pier.

Glade has already spent a couple of days within the [Ruined City]. With the troops he deployed on each continent, Glade is sure that nothing troublesome will come to his kingdom. On the portal he used, there are [Chaos Dragons] guarding together with some of his finest generals. Thus, he continued treading through the [Ruined City] without much worries but nevertheless doing his best to attain his goal quickly.

"Ahh yes, another horde of monsters." Glade continued, viewing the wide plains that followed the mountain. Again, this is the only choice for him to take but, the King decided to rest for a while and recover some of his mana.

Everywhere Glade goes is a monster infested area. A vile purple mist covers the land and, not much could be said about finding anything edible. The rivers are bubbling with a toxic green color while the plants are all withered. Those which are not proved to be nothing more than monsters in disguise.

On the skies, various dragons roam around freely and, from time to time, Glade would be stuck in place as these beasts fight for aerial dominance. He could win against them of course but, that'd attract more attention to him and bring more monsters in the process.

Yet even with all of these misfortunes, Glade is actually enjoying himself. He knew that, if things are this difficult then, he'll surely have great rewards waiting for him. Of course, he also needs to bear with the god of mischief who continues toying with him.

"Hey got any updates yet?" Pier said over an unrestricted communication channel.

Since the forgotten city is technically not part of Mythos anymore, no restrictions apply to the area. Hence, gods could even come down there themselves but, there was never any reason to do so because of the thought that nothing worthwhile would come out of it.

"Nothing yet, the map you gave me says that I'm still a week away from the research facility." Glade responded, creating scouting owls which he scattered everywhere. He added a little something to them which allowed the owls to explode as soon as they make contact with monsters.

"That's a shame, I thought that my favorite elf is already near." Pier continued.

"Please, can we drop that favorite elf charade of yours. I know you've got plans to double-cross me soon." The king responded indifferently, receiving a chuckle from the god of misfortune.

He is thankful for the fact that Pier has helped him advance his goals up to this point. But he has never placed his whole trust in the god, not even once. In fact, it is in his nature to doubt everyone, thinking that every individual has the same line of thinking as he does.

"Silly human. You know that I could've just outright killed you once you entered this realm. And yet here we are, you're still alive and I'm still guiding you." Pier continued, watching the elf closely.

"Say anything you want. You've got no chance of convincing me that you're openly helping me out." He replied and at this, Pier chuckled before finally ending the communication.

"I'll make sure that our positions are reversed soon enough." Glade thought to himself. His owls finally finished doing their job with some of them actually exploding. Glade made his way to the nearest area which has been counted as safe while keeping Pier's directions in his head.

Although the place in itself is a wasteland, Glade has already gathered a lot of materials for his research. Even without a handy system like Zeke's, Glade can store items using [Infinite Box] one of the ancient skills owned by Gallio.

It can store any item and has no limit. The only problem is that it doesn't have an auto-sorting system so, Glade has to do this all on his own once he returns to Mythos. But none of this would matter if he can't get his hands on both the formula for immortality and, other formulas which could help him reach divinity.

"I won't be your plaything for much longer. Don't you worry." Glade said, walking casually through the safe route provided by his owls.

Throughout his life, Glade has been able to get stronger by always allowing himself to be stepped on by stronger individuals. He allowed himself to be a servant of the Windsprites in order to gain more of Gallio's trust. Of course, he directly served Sylph but, their positions are now reversed.

He then served for the purpose of the Blood Elf Monarch. Doing all of his biding no matter how trivial or irritating they may be at times. He continued following Gallio's orders and, soon enough found the perfect opportunity to consume both him and all of his powers.

Right now, Glade only needs to worry about Pier. He needs to make sure that none of his real motives actually show until he gets an upper hand. After that, all thats left is [Ragnark] the battle with the gods which would usher a new era of divinity.

"This system is so rotten." He said as he looked at the wasteland created by the greedy gods. From his birth until the present moment, Glade was able to see the real state of things. The greed of both men and gods and, the evil that reeks wherever he goes. Yet, no matter what happens, it is only the mortals who gets punished and never the gods.

Glade thought how unfair this is. Unknown to him, his goal and Zeke's are somehow aligned but, neither of them knows this yet. In the meantime, Mythos' King continued moving forward, step by step, and destroying everything that dares slow him down.

"I'll make sure that you pay for all your sins. Each and every one."
