The First King of Beasts

Chapter 97 Enemy Or Foe II

(Sorry everyone, my PC might be planning to leave this world. I did take it to the doctors, and they are still running tests on it, so we don't know yet. For now, I'll be writing on my phone, so please understand if there's anything unusual about quality-)

Dustin continued on his path as he entered deeper and deeper into the fog. He thought of the two pillars of rock that shot into the carbonated clouds as gates, so Dustin was a bit curious as to what was on the other side.

The drake however, was standing still. It had managed to get there only because of the effects the mist had on those who were within it, but Dustin couldn't tell why the drake had yet to make a move. Maybe perhaps if the drake moved, it's movements would be too big and the most would not be able to mask it anymore? Dustin thought, but it didn't bother him much. As long as it was a beast, he would be able to control it.

Dustin took a second to ask the system to provide information about the drake before him. He had a pretty bad feeling in his mind, but he just needed to confirm. He was sure confident about controlling the drake no problem, but that was only if the monster was within the allowed range of A rank and bellow.

'System, what's the beast's rank?' Dustin asked in his mind while still pretending not to notice the drake. He was getting closer and closer with each step, so he was starting to prepare for combat.

.

[Drake]

Rank: A

Favourability: Negative

Hp: 1,700

Mp: 500

[Skill tab]

Passive: XXXX

Active: XXXX

Dustin then took a quick look at the system window that just popped up before his eyes. The beast was an A rank, and that was already pushing the limits. 'I won't be surprised if something like this would be a pseudo S rank. Now that'll be bad.' Dustin said in his mind as he saw the stats of the drake. 'And what's up with the favourability? Is this guy Kurama or something? So much hate for a stranger.' Dustin said in his mind jokingly... Of course there was no one to laugh with him, as always.

He had invaded the man's home, so it was expected, or if it was a female, even worse. He could only hope there were no children involved.

By the time Dustin was about 20 metres away from the drake, he could feel it's gaze on him, and the negative energy from it was enough to be suffocating. If it weren't because of the kind of nature he had, he would be rendered immobile by now.

With the sixth sense, Dustin could feel how the drake's muscles contracted, and with that he knew the time had come, he had reached close enough. The drake charged towards him with such speed Dustin could never imagine a creature of its size possessing. The drake stood at about four to five metres tall, and was at least ten metres in length, for something like that to move that fast, it wasn't something was expecting at all, so he was almost caught off guard.

Before the drake could strike it's front leg where Dustin stood, he had already jumped out of there, leaving it empty. The drake wasn't fast enough to move in a zip, but it was fast. Dustin was only stunned by its movement initially, but now that he knew how fast it was, he had no problem evading it when it came to speed.

As for Dustin, at level 19, he could be considered a pseudo C rank, but with the increase in his stats, he would be at least B rank or pseudo A rank. No matter what though, he still wasn't a match for the drake if it was down to physical stats. The only advantage he had were his skills, but Dustin could just feel it in his heart.. 'It won't work on this guy.' Dustin thought to himself as he evaded the first strike from the drake. It was no problem however, as he had formulated a plan in his mind to escape.

'System, how can I tame a creature of a higher rank than the skill and myself?' Dustin asked in his mind as he landed some metres away.

[If Tame is unsuccessful because of difference in level, you will have to beat the creature into submission]

[The skill Taming Master does not depend on your level or rank, so being of a higher rank than the creature when the creature is of higher rank than the skill will not produce a different effect, you will still need to beat the creature into submission]

[Unless another skill or method used, the standards do not change]

Listening to the system speak, Dustin had already decided what he was going to do. 'Good thing I got that new weapon.' He thought to himself. He had the perfect plan thought up in his head. Turns out there was still a way to kill the beast.

The moment Dustin landed; the drake left no openings for Dustin and charged a second time. This pattern of attack continued for a while until Dustin led the monster into the side of one of the huge rocks. Hitting square on the rock gave the drake cause to slow down, and it also gave Dustin the opportunity to begin his own attack.

Looking at the MP of the beast, Dustin could tell immediately without a stutter that it was largely physical based and didn't have a lot of skills that had to do with using MP. With that knowledge, Dustin was ready to attack.

'First off...'

Dustin activated his taming skill, and for about two seconds, the drake seemed to be stunned, but after that it snapped out of it, and Dustin received a system notification pop up before his eyes.

[Taming failed. The beast's rank is too high]

[You have to beat the beast into submission for taming to be possible]

From the start though, this didn't matter. What Dustin wanted was that little window when the drake was going to be stunned, and to his advantage, it lasted longer than he estimated, giving him enough time to do his business.

Dustin pulled out his great axe, and with as much force as he could he tried to dig into the drake's underbelly, which he figured would be the least protected part of the drake's body. Unfortunately for him, this plan didn't work as intended, as the skin on the underside of the drake was still too tough for the axe to breach effectively, all that appeared was a small cut. 'This guy has to be ages old to be this tough..' Dustin thought in his head.

With that failed attack, the drake swept it's hand sideways, but Dustin had enough time to fall to the ground and even evade his attack again. After that evasion, Dustin was almost surprised at what followed, as a stream of fire came washing down on him from the drake's mouth, completely engulfing him and the entire surrounding around.
