The Emperor Reigns Them All

Chapter 144 What To Do

Chapter 144 What To Do

At about 50 meters above the ground, she could even see the light from a village very far away.

The scenery in the wilderness at night was not as mesmerizing as the cities because there was much less light around. It also was not beautiful, but one would still be captured by its unique serenity.

Su Emei could not help feeling her heart beating much faster. She turned around in shock and almost knocked into someone’s face.

Since the two of them were extremely close, she could even see his long eyelashes clearly.

Feeling taken aback, she pulled her face away and saw a face that was as fair as a scholar’s.

It was Li Ye’s face!

His face was calm and collected, just like a deep lake without any waves on the surface. The cold moonlight splashed onto his face like a thin layer of frost, making him look grimmer than usual.

Su Emei almost could not believe what she was seeing.

“His cultivation level is so high that he could jump about 50 meters from the ground in one go?

“He saved me all by himself just now?

“But I was the one on guard at night, how could he have reacted so fast?

“Exactly how high is his cultivation?”

A piercing scream pulled Su Emei back to reality, she recognized it as Wei Xiaozhuang’s voice.

She saw Wei Xiaozhuang running through the forest with a few assassins chasing after him. Multiple streaks of Sword and Knife Qi went after him and cut down one tree after another.

“Xiaozhuang!” shouted Su Emei as she became suddenly concerned. Wei Xiaozhuang had only been able to walk for a short while, so his flow of Spiritual Qi was still not smooth, hence the current situation was undoubtedly extremely dangerous for him!

She wanted to say something to Li Ye, but she felt her body falling down before she got the chance to do so. In the forest below her were numerous agile black figures jumping off of treetops and dashing toward them from six different directions!

Every assassin kept his head up, kept his knees close to his body, and held a sword in his hand. Their movements were as fast and sharp as arrows that just left the bow, aggressive and invincible!

Su Emei felt a trace of fear in herself.

She and Li Ye were falling rapidly while the assassins were approaching with unstoppable momentum, which put them naturally in a passive situation. All six extremely strong assassins besieging the two of them was simply too overwhelming for Su Emei to be able to respond to. Once the two of them landed at the point where the assassins planned to execute their attack, they would be in deep trouble!

“Watch out!” shouted Su Emei as she turned to look at Li Ye.

Li Ye looked as calm as usual.

He turned to Su Emei and smiled. It was just a casual smile, nothing special, but reassuring. He said to her, “Don’t be afraid.”

Su Emei was stunned for a moment.

When Li Ye was talking, he was facing Su Emei instead of looking at the six assassins. Meanwhile, he freed his left hand and pressed down with immense force!

One giant circular wave appeared right below them with a deafening boom, creating a huge, round-shaped reflective surface that crashed down to the ground. The Spiritual Qi released by it was so strong that both of their robes and hair were blown upward.

Su Emei looked down immediately and found that those six black figures all stopped the instant they hit the reflective surface. Under the great impact, their bodies were pushed away from the surface by more than 10 meters and fell into the forest, just like dumplings being dropped into a boiling pot!

A ripple effect spread across the entire forest with the impact of Spiritual Qi, like a peaceful lake being disrupted by a falling stone. Su Emei witnessed all of this while feeling astonished.

She took a deep breath and looked at Li Ye’s eyes, all of this felt so surreal to her.

She finally realized how strong he actually was.

When Li Ye and Su Emei landed, the leaves were gradually falling off all the trees.

When Su Emei looked up again, she saw leaves flying in midair and falling onto the ground, like snowflakes or thousands of butterflies flying across the sky. Everything looked so poetic and picturesque under the sky full of stars.

Wei Xiaozhuang suddenly rushed out from the forests and rolled onto the floor as he yelled for help. Behind him were three black figures chasing after him as they stumbled across the forest.

Those three assassins stopped instantly when they noticed all their team members were gone and both Li Ye and Su Emei were unharmed. They were stunned for a moment and showed great fear toward Li Ye as they met his fierce eyes, then ran back into the forest immediately.

They had both shown up and fled in a matter of seconds.

Li Ye did not chase after them.

“How are you doing, Xiaozhuang?” Su Emei wanted to rush over and check his injuries, but Li Ye pulled her back by force.

Su Emei looked back and blinked in confusion.

Li Ye turned her around with her back facing Xiaozhuang. She still could not figure out why he was doing so, and the righteousness on his face confused her even further. Just as she was about to ask why, however, she felt that something was wrong.

“That’s weird, why do I feel so cold on my chest?”

Su Emei looked down in question and her face became terrified instantly.

When her clothes were ripped by the Sword Qi earlier on, there was a pretty big tear. Now that the tear had opened up a bit more, Su Emei’s nipples were revealed without her knowing it. She blushed and screamed, “Pervert!” then jumped meters away from them like a rabbit and hid behind the carriage.

Wei Xiaozhuang stumbled over and looked at Li Ye, then looked toward the carriage and asked him in confusion, “She... she’s not injured, is she?”

Li Ye replied in all seriousness, “Not physically, but I’m not sure if she’s hurt emotionally.”

“No physical injuries, that’s good.” Wei Xiaozhuang still did not know what was going on, so he glanced at Li Ye a couple more times, then twisted his round neck a few times and gasped out of pain, then continued, “I guess it’s inevitable that she’d be terrified from the fight.”

Hearing Wei Xiaozhuang reply to him so seriously, Li Ye was speechless for a moment.

“By the way, you’re really strong!” Wei Xiaozhuang finally recalled what had happened. He looked at Li Ye in surprise and admiration and said, “I saw everything! You blasted six assassins away with one single palm attack! Your cultivation is terrifying! Are you at the high-level Qi-refining stage already? Who were those men in black? Why did they want to kill us?”

Li Ye glanced at the carriage calmly, then smiled at Wei Xiaozhuang and said, “I’m just slightly above average. As for those assassins, I didn’t recognize them, either.”

Meanwhile, Su Emei was squatting behind the carriage with a face as red as a ripened peach. She buried her head between her knees and kept hitting the ground while whining to herself, “That was so, so, so embarrassing! What should I do now? He must’ve seen everything! Gosh, what should I do? I don’t know what to do!”

Recalling all her interactions with Li Ye, Su Emei felt even more embarrassed. When she faced those assassins, she first fell into his arms, then was forced to turn around a few times until their bodies were touching in a very embarrassing and intimate way. Li Ye then held her as he jumped up, and held her right at her waist with his hand resting on her belly...

“The most embarrassing part of it all was that pervert must have seen my breasts! Now my reputation is completely gone! What should I do?”

The more she thought about it, the more she felt like crying. However, she could not help also recalling that unique feeling when Li Ye touched her, especially when he held her around her waist and rested his hand on her belly. His hand felt warm and firm, giving her a feeling that she had never experienced and making her feel tingles all over her body. “This guy doesn’t look so sturdy, yet his chest looks so broad and firm...” she thought.

When they were in that dire situation, Su Emei just felt that she could not gather any strength and had lost the ability to think clearly. Luckily, Li Ye was busy confronting the enemies and did not notice how embarrassed she was, otherwise she would really like to dig a hole and hide herself in it right away—or at least she did not think he had noticed.

She could not even recall where she placed her hands at that time. “I think I put them around Li Ye’s waist? Or was it his neck? Gosh, isn’t that considered flirting? Did he notice what I did? Please tell me he didn’t!”

She only felt her scalp getting numb and her heart beating unusually fast, she did not even notice that she already made a giant hole in the ground after hitting it repeatedly...

Wei Xiaozhuang only saw some mud being thrown into the air once in a while behind the carriage, so he got curious about it. He pulled Li Ye’s sleeve and asked, “Look at all that mud. What is she doing back there? I don’t remember her having the hobby of playing with mud!”

Li Ye tried to suppress his urge to laugh and said, “She’s probably just trying to unwind after that intense fight back there.”

Wei Xiaozhuang gave it some thought, then nodded in all seriousness. “That’s possible.”

Li Ye asked Wei Xiaozhuang to find some firewood. Shaking his head, he took out a long white robe and threw it to Su Emei. There was no way she could keep wearing that torn robe. It was a pity that he did not have any female clothes—had Song Jiao been here, she could have given her some.

“Don’t worry about it, I haven’t worn this even once. It’s brand new.” Li Ye told her out of kindness, yet he noticed there was immediately more mud flying around behind the carriage...

He shook his head again and left the carriage. “Su Emei is indeed an elegant and beautiful young lady. She’s very cautious around strangers, and her cultivation is not bad. She’s still very naive though because she probably did not experience many things while living on that mountain,” he thought.

Li Ye sat down with Wei Xiaozhuang once he got the firewood ready. After everything that happened this night, no one had the mood to sleep, so Li Ye asked Wei Xiaozhuang, “Who were those assassins?”

He was certain those assassins were not targeting him. He might not be among the top in terms of cultivation level, but he was still the most valued courtier for Grand Prince Li Yan. Anyone would know there had to be some experienced fighters protecting him in secret wherever he went. If one were to send two cultivators whose Qi-refining was only about Level 4 to lead a group of assassins to kill him, it would obviously only be asking for their own death.

Moreover, he even changed his appearance with the help of Song Jiao... It was not a complete makeover, but one would definitely not recognize him unless they were close to him.

Adjusting the bonfire with a branch, Wei Xiaozhuang shook his head and said, “I don’t know them!”

He probably felt his answer was a little irresponsible, so he thought for a while then continued, “When we left the mountain, our master never mentioned any enemies we have made. You also know our temple is too small and remote to be known by many people, so we had no conflict of interest with others. Moreover, our master is a very kind man who only helped others over these years. He had never done any harm to anyone, and we know he won’t do that ever.”

Li Ye nodded and started thinking deeply.
