Chapter 368
368 A prison of fire and swift strike
[How many charges have you collected in total after absorbing some of the Wind Cannon and Wind Armor spells?]
Vincent looked at his hand. He opened and closed it. “I can feel two fingers and a little of another one...” He answered with a frown. They both knew he needed more charges at the level of Overflow controlled techniques.
[...]
[Two charges aren’t enough. Two of your favorite Finger Shanks won’t work against that tempest-like armor.]
Vincent assertively looked at the Great Gray Wolf. He noticed a flaw in the Wind Armor spell. Gathering so much wind around one’s body can pull unwanted objects if unlucky.
A smirk appeared on his face when a dangerous thought flashed in his mind. “I want to try something, but you might not like it. ” Vincent said while stretching his sore body another time.
Kazumi became interested in Vincent’s plan, yet he didn’t tell her. Vincent kept her curious yet nervous with the words, “you might not like it.”
Vincent knew the adrenaline of the heated battle was lessening the feeling of pain. The injuries he sustained were not apparent such as a cut.
After stretching his body, Vincent ran towards the Great Gray Wolf to have his movement unhindered by any unforeseen ache or cramp.
.....
As Vincent strode forward and the Great Gray Wolf ran to grind him to paste with the gusts spinning around its body, both of them reached the range to initiate an attack in the blink of an eye.
Vincent stopped to begin his plan. His arm swung, and green dust filled the air. After summoning all the mutated ash collected in the past few days, he jumped back.
“Ignite!” Vincent shouted as he snapped his fingers. A spark touched the cloud of the flammable mutated ash, and *BOOM!* a green flame with intense heat blasted. The force pushed Vincent, who was in mid-air, even farther back.
Vincent soon landed on his feet. In front of him was the body of a massive wolf with a raging green fire burning around its body.
As Vincent presumed, the forceful gust of the Wind Armor gave the fire more power to burn even fiercer. The fire intensified as the wind allowed it to last longer than usual. In the end, the wind became engulfed in a flame with more intensive heat than an ordinary flame.
Kazumi was astonished beyond words. She wanted to praise Vincent for the plan, yet she was also planning to later lecture him on how dangerous it was. Not only could Vincent catch on fire, but he could start a forest fire, as Iris feared.
‘Heh... Vincent forgot about the forest in the heat of battle... Iris asked not to hurt nature by starting a wildfire. Fortunately, she isn’t seeing what crazy plan Vincent decided to do.’ Kazumi thought.
The Wind Armor quickly became a hellish prison for the Great Gray Wolf. It whimpered with a raspy voice as its fur started to catch on fire and its skin singe and burn.
The Great Gray Wolf had no choice but to remove the Wind Armor before the fire cooked it alive. However, little did the wolf know that the mutated green fire didn’t have a long burning time. It was about to extinguish in a few more seconds. A little before, it decided to stop its spell.
The gusts of wind carrying the green flame disappeared as if they never existed. The fire was extinguished at the same time. It made the Great Gray Wolf think the fire was extinguished because of this action.
*Rustle, rustle*
The Great Gray Wolf felt a sinister presence rushing from its side. As it moved its head and prepared to act at a moment’s notice, a pair of bright golden eyes entered its sight and a feeling of dread bushed against its skin. The wolf suddenly felt a cold chill rushing down its spine.
Stride after the other, Lupa appeared. The Great Gray Wolf opened its jaws as it was too late to use a spell. Lupa was too close and too fast to do anything other than moving its head and bite.
Lupa suddenly jumped and landed on all fours. Her claws dug deep in the ground when she landed. She raised her calm, eerie gaze with a pair of golden glowing wolf eyes focused on her prey.
Lupa kept her body flowing with the momentum as if she found no resistance of wind or gravity. As if the world revolved around her claws.
Lupa pushed her body forward, and her speed drastically increased. She became a blur for a split second and went from one side to another.
Lupa passed under the monstrous wolf’s head, her arms became blurry as they moved, and she soon stopped on the opposite side. Blood flowed and followed her like a trail on the ground.
Lupa stood still, satisfied after her claws drunk the blood of her prey. She turned around and looked calmly at the Great Gray Wolf, bleeding from its throat with a gaze that gave the impression, ‘I will hunt you until I feel satisfied.’
Primal Insight ended then the first drop of blood fell from one of her claws. The cold and dangerous-looking Lupa suddenly became happy and excited. Her personality changed in the blink of an eye. Or when her eyes last blinked and returned to normal along with her personality.
“Hehehehe. ” Lupa giggled. She looked at Vincent and waved her arm carefree. “I did ambush! The kill is mine!”
The Great Gray Wolf glared at Lupa when she acted like the victor. Its vision became blurry. Soon, it could start feeling the pain from the swift wolf girl’s attack.
*Thud* The Great Gray Wolf fell on the ground and died.
.

The Promised Quest reward window appeared. He didn’t need to inspect if the wolf was dead.
Vincent stopped using Overheat and went in front of the wolf’s corpse.
“You did well Lupa.” Vincent looked at Lupa to praise her, but a worrying frown appeared on his face. “Your eyes! You overused Primal Insight again.”
Lupa had a pair of bloodshot eyes as if she had an infection. Additionally, a tear of blood was in the corner of her eyes. It appeared she overused her ability to kill the Great Gray Wolf before it ended.
Lupa wiped her tears, closed her eyes, and smiled. “I am fine my mate. I practiced walking with my eyes closed. I can also follow my mate with your scent, hehe. Best girl Lupa can do many things, hehe.” She said in a cheery mood.
[Good thing there are healing spells in this world. I fear she might go blind one day by overusing Primal Insight to increase her speed, senses, and reaction.]
*Sigh...* Vincent walked over to Lupa and gave her a head pat. “Do things in moderation, okay? Don’t make us worry about you.” He noticed her tail under her skirt wagged happily as he said these caring words.
.
[1x Great Gray Wolf Corpse (Rare Quality) gained.]
[1x Small Wind Core Stage Nine (Rare Quality) gained.]
.
Vincent stored the corpse of the enormous wolf and held Lupa’s hand. He escorted her to the support team, where they should be treating Zefine.
The window of the Promised Quest didn’t appear, meaning the quest didn’t fail, yet Zefine wasn’t healthy enough to complete the quest’s healthy requirement.
Vincent and Lupa returned. He could see that the fight was half over. The young woman Zefine was still battling her fight against death.
Lilith was sitting with Plow sitting on her lap. She looked exhausted. Probably from using Minor Regen in combination with Divine Blessing as much as she could.
Zefine was on the ground. She was topless, but her chest was covered with a piece of cloth. Ester and Iris were using grounded herbs on Zefine’s body. Sakura was rubbing and crushing herbs between her hands.
“Vincent Vincent is back.” *Pho* Plow looked happy. But she saw Lupa with her eyes close. Her little fox ears tilted, and she looked a bit sad her rival was hurt.
.
[Name] Zefine
[Condition] Medium Injury, Missing Limb (1 Arm – Left Arm), Unconscious, Medium Blood Loss
.
“Her condition has become better.” Vincent said after he checked her condition.
“I worried Zero might drink too much blood, so I asked Maid Xu for a plant or a herb that can help the body make more blood. She gave a handful, but at least it was enough to help this human woman.” Iris explained as she changed the balm of crushed herbs around the burnt stump.
Iris stopped for a moment and looked at Lilith, “Sister Lilith helped a lot with her goddess powers too.”
Lilith was too tired to say she wasn’t a goddess. She smiled and rubbed Plow to ease her anxiety. The injured Zefine was too much experience right off the bat for her.
Lilith needed some time to make herself accept the sight of the gravely injured woman and the blood she saw dripping as Sakura brought the woman. The sight of so much blood was a sight she wasn’t used to yet.
[Vincent. You have two hundred Soul Power saved.]
-I wanted to help her... but now it sounds like it is profitable to heal her for the stat increase.-
[I... I didn’t mean it that way... but it is also true in a way.]
