Chapter 1182: Limitations

Chapter 1182: Limitations

The discussion that followed was deciding who would be able to receive the ingredients from the Merman Empire.

The Merman Empire would trade ingredients for magic potions that would be useful to them, but there had to be a limit to who could make those trades.

It would have to be people that would have a clean record of not causing any trouble.

But that was only the first of many conditions that had to be passed to be able to trade.

Other than having a clean track record, they had to undergo a strict personality test as well to ensure that they wouldn't do anything harmful.

That would be done by a group that came from both the sea witches side and the Merman Empire side.

At first, it seemed like the Merman Empire side wanted to keep this right with the Merman Empire. However, they accepted that doing this would create a divide between the Merman Empire and the sea witches.

Or rather, the Merman King realized this after the former crown prince pointed it out. Even though he was open to breaking down the lines between the Merman Empire and the sea witches, it was hard for him to act completely unbiased. After all, he was the one that ruled over the Merman Empire for a long time and did what he thought was best for his people as the Merman King.

So when he was asked to think about concessions, it was hard for him to think from the point of view of the sea witches.

That was why he only made suggestions that were based on the benefits of the Merman Empire.

However, that wasn't something that could be done to achieve harmony.

In the end, they turned to the only neutral party that was here.

They turned to me for suggestions.

The former crown prince was someone that could understand both sides, but it was also a fact that he had spent a long time with the sea witches. At the same time, his wife and daughter were also from the sea witches.

So it was impossible for him to be completely unbiased.

I was the only one that was considered completely unbiased since I was related to neither side. The only reason that I had gotten involved in this matter in the first place was because I had been called in by Aquaron.

So it wasn't as if I was related to either side in the first place.

That meant that I would be a fair judge of things.

"Other than making sure that there's an even number of people from both sides, you should also make some kind of certification to make it more efficient. This would be a test that they would take to determine if they have the right knowledge to properly trade with the Merman Empire."

They slowly nodded in agreement, looking at me as if I was offering a completely new opinion to them.

That was because to a certain extent, I was.

I was drawing on the knowledge from my previous world as I gave these suggestions.

The idea that was on my mind was that they would have something that was similar to

driver's licenses, but would apply to sea witches using their magic.

After thinking about it for a bit, I said, "In addition, I think that we should create some kind of mixed school for children from both sides."

At this, both the Merman King and the former crown prince knitted their brows.

For the first time, it didn't seem like they agreed with what I said.

It seemed that both of them didn't believe that it was right to involve children in this matter. But I had a completely different view.

"If you want this idea to stick in their minds for many generations, you have to start teaching them when they're young. If you only show them fear for the other side when they're growing up, all that will happen is that they will learn hate and fear that will never leave them." I said in a serious voice to the two of them.

I knew from my modern world that peace was not something that could be obtained in a generation. It was something that had to be built on from the younger generation and created over several different generations.

So unless they started with the children, it would be impossible for them to completely break down the walls between the two sides.

It seemed like they were still worried about the safety of the children, but it didn't seem like they were opposed to this.

Especially when Ariel and Dicus both seemed to support this.

Both of them wanted to learn more about each other's culture, unlike the adults who had their minds shaped over the years.

In the end, the two sides agreed to what I said about building a school that would teach children from both sides.

The last thing that I suggested were laws.

"You need a set of laws that would apply to both sides. Laws are blind, so they are the best way to restrain everyone. As long as there are laws, everyone who follows them will be protected by them."

This was knowledge that I borrowed from a king in ancient China who unified the lands.

Once again, it seemed like both of them were hesitating.

One was hesitating since he didn't like being bound by laws and the other was hesitating because he didn't think that the sea witches would follow laws.

But they eventually came to a conclusion that something had to be done to protect everyone or else it would all come to nothing.

So at the very least, they could set some rules in place.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om

That was enough of a compromise that I could agree with it.

With this, the first step was taken towards the unification of the Merman Empire and the sea witches.

But before this meeting was over, there was something else I wanted to talk about.

"About our trade deal..."
