Chapter 84 Lyle's House
Chapter 84 Lyle's House
"Umm, master, what kind of vegetable is this, I don't think I have ever seen it before." Adam suddenly asked Lyle during their lunch as the latter was cutting a piece of his steak.
"Ah, that's something that grows inside the forest, there are some fruits as well that can be found there, just like the medicinal plants that I told you about before."
"I see, but master, do the people here really go to those forests all the time in order to get those herbs and vegetables, why not just plant some in their garden?"
"I mean, it just seems weird that they would go to the forest every single day when planting some by themselves can save a lot of time, right?" Adam asked with a confused expression as Lyle chuckled before taking another bite of his steak.
"One would certainly think so, it definitely would be easier and faster if they could plant them, but that's the problem, they can't, nobody can." Lyle suddenly said as he looked at Adam.
"You see, these vegetables, fruits, and herbs are native to this area, and only this area in the empire, perhaps even the world."
"The city of Orsvald, and the surrounding areas, are all situated along a huge network of mana veins."
"There are currently three dungeons that can be found nearby, all of them extremely dangerous as even the smallest of the three requires a party of peak Silver Knights to be cleared, the other two are filled with Golden Core monsters, however."
"The most interesting thing is the fact that none of them have a mana vein that is connected to them especially, but they all draw power from one mana vein that is right below the city."
"The mana vein is the biggest one in the empire, but it has a strange network of smaller veins that come from it, they are scattered around the area, and the biggest three pieces of the whole network are where the dungeons are, as for the rest, that's where the forests are found."
"With the small mana veins being present there, the soil itself had changed and given birth to all these plants that can only be found here."
"Taking them back home to grow is impossible because the soil is simply too different, and taking the soil from the forests is also not viable as it loses its powers and unique properties after being relocated."
"Even here in the city, where the largest part of the mana vein network, the power is hidden deep inside and it is impossible for the soil to stay the same even here, only in the forests will it be suitable for the growth of the plants."
"People have tried growing them away from the forests, but that only led to the plants withering and dying fast, leaving nothing behind," Lyle said before resuming his lunch while Adam was staring out of the window of the restaurant and admiring the giant city.
"I see, the big cities of the empire sure are different compared to the other ones," Adam said absent-mindedly as he continued staring outside the restaurant and admiring the bustling city as people constantly walked around while carriages and horses never stopped moving through the busy streets as well.
Lyle simply smiled upon seeing the enchanted look on Adam's face.
He had anticipated that the young man would have this kind of reaction as this was the first time he had ever visited a major city, especially one as large as Orsvald.
After finishing their lunch, Lyle and Adam made their way outside where they got into a carriage. Lyle told the driver the address and they were on their way to Lyle's house.
Since the headquarters of the organization was located inside the city, most of the higher-ranked assassins actually lived there as well.
Lyle was no exception and he lived in a small house that he had just recently bought after staying in different apartments around the city in the past. His house had all the necessities installed and he had even made many defensive structures around the yard that came with the house.
The house itself was also bobby trapped and if one was to try and break into it, they would find themselves in a world of pain.
After riding in the carriage for about 20 minutes, Lyle and Adam arrived at the location.
In front of Adam stood a two-story house. Situated in the middle of a giant yard that was approximately about 40 meters long and 20 meters wide, the house offered a great view of the surrounding area, and they had privacy thanks to the tall walls that were placed around the whole property.
Upon learning that this was Lyle's house, Adam stared at the property and then at Lyle, in awe of what his master possessed inside the city.
Lyle chuckled upon seeing Adam's reaction and went to the gate. He placed his right hand on the gate and the gate suddenly shone brightly for a split second before opening up to let the two get in.
"Alright, follow my every step and you will be fine," Lyle told Adam who simply nodded at him before following.
Lyle wasn't sure whether the traps would be able to kill Adam or be activated by him in the first place.
The whole property was covered in mana-sensing arrays that were connected to the many traps that one would be able to see.
Upon making their way to the house, the two came across two bodies on the ground.
Two of them were already starting to rot and gave a very unpleasant smell. Lyle simply glanced at the bodies before checking their belongings and then clapping his hands.
The claps caused some sort of reaction with the property as some parts suddenly started shaking. Suddenly the soil beneath the two bodies went soft and the bodies slowly started being swallowed up by the ground.
In mere seconds, the bodies were gone while the arrays and traps had received some more energy thanks to them devouring the bodies.
Upon entering the house, the two could see two more dead bodies, one in the hallway of the house that was located right at the entrance. The body was grabbed by Lyle who then proceeded to throw the body away before going deeper inside.
There was another body that was lying on the kitchen floor and Lyle proceeded to do the same with the second body before getting inside the house again, checking all the rooms, and then finally relaxing.
The first thing Lyle did was to integrate Adam's mana signature into the arrays that controlled everything in the area.
Since Adam had been turned by him and had some of his powers, their dna and mana signatures were quite close, but Lyle still had doubts and didn't want to risk Adam getting hurt just because he wished to check something
There were other, safer options when it came to checking out whether Adam truly had the same dna and mana signature as Lyle, but he highly doubted it would be as such. n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
He integrated Adam into the whole system before putting on a robe and hat and bidding him goodbye for now.
Lyle was making his way through the city, not using any carriages or other means of transport.
He walked through the streets and next to people, passing them unobstructed as if they had not even noticed his existence.
After some 30 minutes of walking around, Lyle made his way over to a small bar that seemed to be quite sketchy. He entered the place, only to be hit by the smell of cigars and alcohol that was prevalent inside the establishment.
He looked around the half-empty bar that had some patrons that were already getting drunk. Lyle then proceeded to sit down at the bar before ordering a drink.
The bartender nodded gracefully at Lyle before getting him his drink. Lyle then nodded back, paid for the drink, and went to the side, entering a completely different area of the bar where there were even fewer people present.
A guard was placed at the entrance of the second part of the bar, and upon seeing the drink in Lyle's hands, he didn't move a muscle as Lyle walked past him.
Lyle then went to a small door, knocked, and entered inside.
The inside led to a small room that had a staircase at the end of it. Lyle slowly walked down the staircase for about a minute before reaching the end of the staircase in front of which a wall was located.
Lyle knocked a couple of times on different areas of the wall before a slit appeared from the side and the wall started sliding to the side.
A man appeared at the other side of the wall and Lyle simply took out his stone and gave it to the man before the latter returned the stone and bowed gracefully and let Lyle enter.
