Chapter 171: Who is Getting Engaged?
Chapter 171: Chapter 171: Who is Getting Engaged?
Clark Stone, after his initial shock, walked up enthusiastically. “Abigail, you’re finally here. The ceremony is about to start. Let’s go over there to prepare.”
Abigail didn’t move, looking at Clark Stone with a half-smile.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
On the way here, she already saw how the ghostwriters hired by Clark Stone slandered her. Seeing his face now, she only felt that he was hypocritical and disgusting.
They all thought she was dead, so they cleared themselves of responsibility first through public opinion.
“Prepare for what?” Abigail asked abruptly.
Clark Stone was stunned but forced a smile. “Our engagement. The auspicious time has arrived. Guests are waiting.”
“Who’s getting engaged?” Abigail asked, feigning surprise.
Snapping out of the shock brought by Abigail’s stunning appearance, Clark Stone scrutinized her, his eyes carrying a hint of warning. “Abigail Green, what do you mean?”
“Just what I said.” Abigail chuckled, watching the change in Clark Stone’s expression.
Clark Stone stared fixedly at Abigail. “Don’t forget why you agreed to this engagement. Aren’t you afraid that old woman will go in alive and come out dead if you regret it now?”
Clark Stone had invested a lot in this engagement. Naturally, he wouldn’t let it fall through so easily.
Abigail looked at Clark Stone, who lowered his voice to turn against her. She remained noncommittal.
Clark Stone, hiding his anger, signaled to his subordinates to take Abigail aside and prepare for the engagement ceremony. However, before his men could get close, Kennan Max stepped forward. “Master Stone, please have some self-respect.”
“You are… Special Assistant Max?” Clark Stone was first surprised by Abigail Green’s transformation, then infuriated by her attitude, not even noticing the man behind her, a truly promising presence with a minimal sense of existence.
“Yes.” Kennan Max, the twin brother of Kelvin Max, lacked his brother’s slickness, dealing with matters with a firm coldness, silent and nearly invisible when quiet.
His attitude couldn’t be clearer at this moment.
Clark Stone didn’t expect Brandon Piers to have Kennan Max accompanying Abigail Green, his expression turning uglier. Knowing he couldn’t use force, he was relieved to see Lincoln Green and his wife approaching.
Giving Abigail a warning look, Clark Stone turned around and warmly greeted Lincoln Green and his wife, whispering in Lincoln’s ear.
Before Lincoln Green could speak, Rose Taylor softly exclaimed, “How can this be? Today the Green and Stone families jointly sent out the invites. How can the engagement be called off midway? Husband, go persuade Abigail. The ceremony is about to start. This is no time for willfulness.”
Rose Taylor, though unsure of how Abigail Green survived, couldn’t let the marriage fall through at this critical moment. Softly urging Lincoln Green to persuade Abigail, every word blamed Abigail for being willful.
Sure enough, Lincoln Green’s expression changed, his earlier moment of guilt dissipating. He strode towards Abigail Green, cautiously scolding her away from the guests. “Why are you making a scene now? Do you even see the occasion? Go and get ready.”
Due to the Piers family’s influence, today’s attendees at Clark Stone and Ruby Green’s engagement banquet were of high status. Lincoln Green couldn’t afford to lose face.
He had been worried about this daughter’s obesity embarrassing him. Unexpectedly, with a little tidying up, she was presentable. Naturally, he wouldn’t let Abigail ruin everything.
But Abigail coldly and distantly looked at her father. “I said I’d come. But did I say I’d attend the engagement banquet?”
“What do you mean?” Lincoln Green disliked the estranged look in his daughter’s eyes.
Abigail smiled slightly. Just then, another commotion arose outside. Everyone looked over to see a tall, cold man with an aristocratic air, exuding a repressed aura, elegantly walking in with a briefcase.
Everyone had the same question in their hearts. Who is this?
