Chapter 503 - 510: Guessing Who it Is
Chapter 503: Chapter 510: Guessing Who it Is
Even if it might make Han Yu more worried and pained, they must tell him; after all, Han Yu is Su Wenyue’s husband and has the right to know everything about her. Moreover, Feng Jianling feared that Han Yu might delay the search due to misjudging the situation, a circumstance they could not allow to happen.
Even if Han Yu felt profound disappointment, he still managed to remain composed. He couldn’t afford to lose his cool; his wife was counting on him. Besides, the concern and anxiety in Feng Jianling’s words were evident, and Han Yu could tell that something bad had happened, something to do with his wife.
“Big Brother Feng, please speak.”
“Here’s what happened: while my men were out looking for Miss Yue, they came across another piece of news. Miss Yue has been somewhat frail, and yesterday, she developed a high fever. That mysterious man in black called for a doctor to treat Miss Yue. However, her illness was rather severe, and the old doctor’s medical skills were limited, so at that time, it was suggested that the man in black should find a better doctor in the city. So, I guess the man in black might have left to take Miss Yue to see a doctor,” Feng Jianling briefed Han Yu on the situation, and he had also brought the old doctor who had treated Su Wenyue.
“My wife is sick, and seriously so?” The first thing Han Yu picked up on was not Su Wenyue’s whereabouts, but the extent of her illness. A deep furrow formed between his brows, and worry was evident on his face. After such a difficult time, besides his wife’s safety, his greatest fear was that her frail body couldn’t withstand such ordeal—and now, his fears had materialized.
“I’m not exactly sure about the details. You should hear what the old doctor has to say.” Feng Jianling said as he led the old doctor in.
The old doctor had just treated a patient last night, stayed up all night, and finally caught some sleep; he had just woken up when he was sought out by another group. However, since Feng Family Manor had a good reputation in the area, the old doctor wasn’t too worried. He had a clear conscience and never did anything dishonorable, so he wasn’t afraid of being approached. He hadn’t expected to be searched out because of that girl from yesterday.
“Doctor Hu, can you tell us about last night’s situation? What happened to my daughter-in-law? Did she catch a chill, or was it a fright that caused her fever?” Han Yu hurriedly inquired, urgency and concern obvious in his tone. Even though he hadn’t found Su Wenyue, his pursuit had given him a general understanding of his wife’s condition, leading him to speculate, which was more or less accurate.
“So, that girl is your wife, huh? I knew something was off,” the old doctor had felt that the man in black wasn’t a good person, acting brashly and showing no respect for elders. But thankfully, he wasn’t entirely rotten. It turned out he was far from a good person, having abducted another man’s wife—that could not be the deed of a good person. This young man was quite pitiable, with his wife taken away.
Thinking this way, the old doctor’s gaze towards Han Yu was filled with sympathy and pity.
But Han Yu couldn’t care less about these things; he wasn’t in the mood to analyze why the old doctor had said what he did. He was only worried about his wife’s health: “Doctor Hu, please, tell us quickly, how is my wife? Is her illness severe?”
Seeing Han Yu like this, the old doctor didn’t delay any further and stroked his beard: “Indeed, it’s quite serious. She had a high fever. By the time I got there, she had already been unconscious for a day, delirious with fever. She hadn’t seen a doctor in time, and if things had gone poorly, even if her life was saved, she might have ended up with brain damage from the fever. That’s why I thought that brute was so careless, waiting until the patient was in such a state before getting anxious. It’s not surprising now, since she isn’t his wife.”
Han Yu’s expression grew increasingly distressed as he listened; his wife was actually this ill, and furthermore…
Feeling the chill emanating from Han Yu, the old doctor knew the young man was worried sick and reassured him: “However, don’t worry too much. While my medical skills are limited and I can’t fully cure your wife, I do have some assurance in stabilizing her condition for the time being. I’ve prescribed medicine, and I had that brute brew it for your wife to drink. If that brute really follows my advice and finds a doctor in the city, there’s a good chance your wife can be saved, at least her life surely can be preserved.”
“Is that true?” Han Yu asked the old doctor insistently, who felt the pressure of his gaze. n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
“Of course, it’s true. I wrote the prescription myself, and I personally fetched the herbs overnight. Despite the man being very rude, he seemed to care about your wife. He rushed to find me to treat her, nearly costing me half my life, and he even asked for the doctor’s address. He must have taken your wife to see that doctor,” the old doctor said, then realized he might have been insensitive. After all, no husband would be pleased to hear that another man was taking such an interest in his wife.
The old doctor looked at Han Yu’s reaction and saw that he didn’t mind at all; rather, he seemed to be relieved. His impression of Han Yu improved further, thinking the young man to be quite magnanimous. It would have been a different story with most other men, who would likely have first worried about the girl’s physical well-being. Yet, it seemed that Miss Yue must have been unwilling to go along with the abduction, which would explain her current state. Now that she was in such a condition, it was best to focus on ensuring her wellbeing and put other concerns aside.
Having seen much in his life, the old doctor had learned to see things more clearly.
“Young man, I was the one who told that brute the doctor’s address. Here, I’ll write it for you; go quickly, and you might find your wife,” the old doctor volunteered, writing down the address without Han Yu having to ask. It was because of his favorable impression of him; otherwise, he could have kept quiet, and nobody would be any the wiser, or simply admit to having treated the young woman yesterday.
“Thank you very much, Doctor Hu.” Han Yu, being a perceptive man, deeply bowed to the old doctor, grateful not just for delaying his wife’s illness but also for his forthcoming information.
“Treating the sick is my duty; it’s just regrettable that my medical skills aren’t perfect, that I couldn’t completely cure your wife. I dare not accept your thanks, young man. Now, it’s more important to find your wife; here, take this address and go quickly,” the old doctor said dismissively with a wave of his hand.
Without needing to be told, Han Yu was anxious to find his wife, but he had to ask one more crucial question before leaving: “Doctor Hu, before I go, please tell me what the man who took my wife looks like, any distinguishing features?”
The old doctor slapped his forehead: “Ah, I’m getting forgetful in my old age. I haven’t told you such an important detail.”
The old doctor proceeded to describe Phantom’s appearance, manner of speaking, and other features he noticed meticulously. The more Han Yu listened, the more familiar it sounded, but he couldn’t immediately place it. Suddenly, a glint flashed in his eyes, and he finally realized who this person was.
