Chapter 118 Rising Star Tournament (8)
Match 1
Xavier the Piercing Light vs. Kayla the Beast Spirit.
Kayla Reqins was from a humble background. She had awakened an S-rank primary class—Wildbloom Druid, and an A-rank specialized class—Nature's Warrior. She had worked hard to improve after getting recruited by the 7th rank Azure Veil Guild.
The match began as Kayla transformed into a flaming bird, using her primary class's skill—Spirit Possession: Blazing Phoenix.
It gave her the ability to fly as a phoenix, fire-attribute to her attacks, and control flame to a certain extent with Mana consumption per second and a gauge: Phoenix Drive [100/100], which she could use instead of Mana to unleash fire-based attacks of her desire. Once it emptied, she would revert to human.
Transforming into a five-meter-long flame phoenix with a wingspan of ten meters, she flew up and formed ten small fireballs, shooting at Xavier one by one while flying around.
Your journey continues at empire
Xavier dodged with dreadful precise and good footwork, his speed fast as he boosted himself using his class skill—Light Feather Steps.
After dodging the ninth fireball, Xavier captured Kayla, slowing down slightly as she seemed to prepare another barrage of attacks, and that was when he attacked.
A piercing light beam unleashed from his rapier, his signature most powerful attack.
Kayla barely dodged it, and her attack formation canceled, but Xavier didn't give her any more chance as he unleashed two more precise, piercing light beams.
One of them squarely struck her, but her aura changed swiftly as she used her class skill—Spirit Possession: Geostorm Turtle.
*Boom!*
She dropped to the ground with a loud bang while unleashing a sandstorm in a big area, obstructing Xavier's view.
Alas, a stronger, more powerful beam penetrated through the storm and struck right on the turtle's head, defeating her as her badge rang, signifying her loss.
Xavier advanced to the top 10 position, eyeing Almond as he walked to the row of winners after Gelato announced his victory and told him to stand on the other side of the platform.
Match 2 began shortly.
Amir the Tempest Gale vs. Emma the Toxin Mist.
Both of them had an S-rank Primary class and an A-rank specialized class.
Amir had wind elemental mastery, and Emma had a unique poison-attribute thanks to her primary class.
Amir used a spear, and Emma used a bow without arrows as she could create arrows using her Mana and buff them with her class skill, making them poisoned.
Amir closed in on Emma immediately, intending to use his class skills in close range, but Emma also used her class skill right off the bat, creating a black-purple mist in 50 50-meter area.
Both of their Focus Field was activated so they could observe each other. Amir was slowed down, and his vision was impaired, along with a reduction in his movement.
But that was nullified as he increased his speed using his specialized class skill and his wind elemental mastery. Two arrows came zooming at him, which he destroyed while he spun his spear, boosting it with wind energy.
*Swoosh!*
A powerful gale blew around him, blowing away the poisonous mist and clearing the area.
Clicking her tongue, Emma didn't waste Mana on this as she released two more arrows along with a class skill that conjured a python-sized snake's projectile with venomous fangs.
Amir spun his spear again and also used his class skill, combining the two as he unleashed a vertical vortex of wind gleaming with power.
It destroyed the arrows and entangled the python, resulting in mutual destruction.
Emma escaped while releasing arrows, maintaining the distance.
Both of them destroyed each other's attack and ran around the platform trying to hit each other, but the win went to Emma in the end as Amir consumed his Mana earlier, and Emma cunningly set a poisonous trap for him while exposing herself to an attack.
Amir took the bait and ate the loss.
"And the winner is Emma the Toxin Mist!"
The audience cheered loudly at the battle that ended after an intense struggle between the duo.
"Now, let us welcome the two dark horses who matched against each other! Almond Crowshade and Marcus Venath!"
Both of them moved to the center of the platform, maintaining 20 meters of distance between them as per the rules of this round.
Gelato handed out a sword and a shield to Marcus while giving a sword to Almond.
"You may summon your pets this time, Almond. Everyone here has watched your fight against Xavier, so the audience is in much anticipation to see them."
Almond smiled and stretched his hand forward, "Come out my spirit wraiths."
Almond made a show by conjuring four fancy magic circles in the air, two to his left and two to his right.
To his left, Dark Pope Benedict and Infernal Knight materialized, while to his right, Chimera Crystalist and Starlight Beast appeared.
Gelato sensed their auras, and he was completely dumbfounded.
The audience burst out in uproar as they saw the badass summons exploding in intense discussion regarding their appearance and wondering about their powers.
'The lad was right…what the fuck?' Gelato's eyes glinted as he measured their auras using his skill. 'They are damn powerful!'
Even Marcus was sweating even before the fight began. 'What the fuck?'
"Oi, we seem to have become a spectacle here," Benedict spoke as he looked around.
"We are on the TV, Ben. Focus," Ashkar spoke as he materialized his giant infernal sword and made a pose by stabbing it on the ground beside him and crossing his arms.
Starlight Beast and Chimera Crystalists looked around, their bodies sparking.
"Oh my," Kira's eyes shone. "Those summons feel powerful and cool!"
"Hehe, you don't know anything yet," Natalia grinned and said as she was standing right beside Kira.
The other participants were also startled. They had seen the video, but seeing them up close and sensing their auras gave them real tension.
"Well! The summons look great, but let us witness their powers now!"
The countdown hologram appeared in the center.
Almond smiled at Marcus and asked, "Choose your opponent. I am not bragging, but if all of them attacked at once, you don't have a chance to win."
Marcus swallowed and looked at the summons.
But then took a deep breath as the countdown neared zero and said, "I won't choose. You may fight as you see fit."
Almond raised his eyebrows before he nodded, a faint smile on his face, "Alright. Crystalist, go."
The countdown hit 0, and Crystalist floated forward, its four floating quarts of crystals gleaming with blue electricity and giving off the unique geo-crystal light of its Earth/crystal-attribute.
Marcus buffed himself and activated his Mana techniques before dashing forward, starting the battle.
'Prism Bolt Barrage,' Almond commanded.
Prism Bolt Barrage (A): Fires a flurry of crystal projectiles charged with lightning, dealing explosive area damage.
Marcus saw the glittering crystals scattering towards him, and he instantly used a defensive skill.
'Not bad,' Almond internally nodded. 'He reacted very fast, with no hesitation at all.'
It wasn't a fluke that this Silver level 10 dark horse won against a silver level 30 Super Rookie.
The copper-colored bulwark barrier protected Marcus from the bombard, but his expression didn't look good. 'What the hell? That attack drained over 30% of my Mana!'
His barrier was unbreakable, but its Mana consumption was relative to the attack it blocked.
At that moment, he realized that there really wasn't anyone among them who could defeat Almond and his four summons.
But he didn't intend to give up without fighting!
'Gladiator's Rush! Titan Slash!'
