Chapter 148: Underworld, The Instinctual Urge to Devour (II)

Even though the spider crabs’ back shells were astonishingly thick and as hard as alloy, and their body structures were somewhat similar to Ironclad Beetles, they couldn't withstand a single strike from the Fiery Beast.

The Orca would charge straight through, drawing and keeping the spider crabs’ attention, while the Fiery Beast would lurk in the darkness, concealing its aura to get close to each scattered spider crab and kill it in one blow.

With their combined efforts, in just a short while, over a dozen spider crabs had fallen under the Fiery Beast’s giant claws. It wasn't until then that the other crabs realized that something was amiss.

Screech!

Accompanied by a sharp cry, the largest spider crab’s massive legs thrashed as it turned around and pounced towards the Fiery Beast in the distance. In this underwater environment, with multiple points of leverage, the spider crab moved swiftly, creating raging water currents as its massive form crossed several hundred meters in the blink of an eye.

The Fiery Beast, however, wasn’t slow either. With a flash, it dodged away from the approaching spider crab like a black shadow.

Boom!

The black beast unleashed a powerful swipe, smashing the back shell of a twenty-meter-long spider crab, and its black tail pierced through the wound, stabbing the brain inside and killing it. Compared to the ten-meter spider crabs, those with a length of twenty meters had even stronger defenses.

Crack!

Pincers glowing with a black and blue light landed on the Fiery Beast’s back, causing a string of vacuum bubbles to explode.

The sharp and keen pincers were too much even for the Fiery Beast’s armor, leaving behind two wounds, each several meters long and a centimeter deep.

Bang!

The Fiery Beast swiftly retaliated with its claws, unleashing a burst of terrifying power. With a thunderous roar, it smashed the rear half of the twenty-meter-long spider crab's body into pieces. The seawater was blasted with a ring of vacuum waves, surging dozens of meters away with astonishing force.

In the murky water, the Fiery Beast glanced at the rapidly healing scales on its back, its eyes cold and devoid of any emotion.

Its outer armor was not like the seemingly heavy but actually mediocre defense of the Orca's scales. The black and blue energy swirling around those pincers had a strong tearing property against protective energy, but it was much less effective against physical armor.

With most of the attack's force deflected by the special structure of its outer armor, the sharp pincers were unable to truly penetrate the Fiery Beast’s defense.

Squeak! Brother, continue! Kill these big guys!

Watching the agile Fiery Beast shuttle through the trench, continuously blasting and killing one spider crab after another, the Orca became extremely excited, its massive body charging forward once again.

Boom!

The raging devouring whirlpool stirred the water, restraining some of the spider crabs that had intended to besiege the Fiery Beast. The Orca slammed its enormous tail into the huge spider crab behind it, sending the crab flying with a resounding crash while sustaining two more torn wounds on its own body.

As the largest spider crab chased after it, the Fiery Beast continued to slay the smaller spider crabs in its path.

In no time, amid the coordinated slaughter by the two colossal beasts, thirty spider crabs were swiftly killed, with their legs crushed to pieces.

Only the two largest spider crabs remained, each spanning forty to fifty meters with their legs sprawled out.

Screech! Screech!

Watching their offspring get slaughtered, the two spider crabs’ eyes almost seemed to turn red, emanating a frenzied killing intent.

Roar! One each.

Squeak! Kill them.

Amid low growls and roars, the Fiery Beast charged first toward the giant spider crab on the left.

Boom! Boom!

Like scythe blades, two-meter-long giant feet descended from above, heavily crashing onto the seafloor and stirring up rolling mud and sand, but were narrowly avoided by the agile Fiery Beast with a swift dodge.

Facing the approaching black beast, the giant spider crab slashed its pincers horizontally, one left and one right, stirring up violent waves that surged forward.

Wherever they passed, their terrifying momentum sent sand and stones flying, and the pincers clamped down.

The Fiery Beast instinctively dodged to one side.

Boom! Boom!

Two blasts akin to deep-sea cannons erupted, roaring through the water. With a deafening crash, they shot past the Fiery Beast and landed on the trench wall a hundred meters away. Rubble went flying as two huge craters with diameters of over ten meters were blasted into the wall, causing it to tremble and collapse.

The terrifying power startled even the Fiery Beast. Clearly, besides the black power that sharpened its pincers to an incredible degree, it also had the ability to unleash an instantaneous burst similar to that of a mantis shrimp.

Whoosh!

Flames leaped across the beast’s body, instantly transforming it into a fiery colossal beast that radiated intense heat from head to toe.

Immediately after the spider crab's pincers unleashed the blast, the Fiery Beast, having dodged the attack, thrust out its claws and seized the spider crab’s left pincer, firmly planting its legs into the ground and rising to stand upright.

Boom!

With a terrifying hundredfold burst of strength, the Fiery Beast directly lifted up the massive spider crab, slamming it into the ground amid the raging tumult of the sea. The entire trench shook violently, and the shockwave stirred up an endless amount of mud and sand, turning the area within hundreds of meters into a muddy mess.

Overturned and smashed onto the seabed, the spider crab’s belly was now exposed. Before it could react, the Fiery Beast lunged forward in a flash.

Sensing the approach of death, the spider crab immediately went berserk. Its long legs thrashed and struggled frantically.

Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!

Wherever those sharp, two-meter-thick legs passed, rocks shattered and mud and sand rolled, making the water even more turbid.

However, due to their excessive length, those legs couldn't reach the Fiery Beast attacking its belly. Instead, it could only howl in agony as it felt the beast tear its abdomen apart with its powerful claws.

With a thunderous crash, the massive body fell to the ground, never to move again.

While the Fiery Beast had seized the opportunity to kill the first spider crab, the battle between the Orca and the other crab was much fiercer. The Orca had clamped down tightly on half of the crab’s body, disregarding the large wounds the crab’s pincers were leaving. It crazily slammed the crab against the wall.

With each crash, a terrifying impact would erupt, causing hundreds or thousands of tons of rocks to tumble down and shrouding the area in darkness and chaos.

The frenzied style of combat made the corners of the Fiery Beast’s eyes twitch.

When colossal beasts were nearly equal in defense, strength, agility, energy shielding, and other aspects, the battle came down to size and combat experience. Clearly, this Orca knew how to leverage its thick skin and strong muscles to its advantage.

Nearly ten minutes later, the entire trench finally calmed down. The Orca angrily smashed the half of the body it held in its mouth one more time before finally spitting out the corpse.

Squeak! Squeak! Brother, we won.

Observing the fierce aura and the glint of joy in the Orca’s eyes despite the massive wounds it was once again covered in, the Fiery Beast shook its head in disbelief.

Roar! Your combat skills are too clumsy. You kill a thousand enemies but give yourself eight hundred wounds.

Squeak! What does that mean?

Roar! It means you should dodge more next time. Don’t end up full of injuries after killing your enemies.

Squeak! I wish I could too, but this is just how I am. The Orca looked at the Fiery Beast’s sharp claws and agile tail with envy.

Roar roar! Alright, enough chit chat. Where are the goodies?

Squeak! Over there.

The orca's massive tail swung, leading the way as it charged towards the end of the green-hued trench.

As they traveled along, the Fiery Beast keenly sensed that the ambient transcendent energy was growing increasingly dense.

When they reached the end of the trench, they saw a narrow crack in the wall, measuring less than half a meter in length and less than three centimeters in width, emitting a faint green light.

Rich transcendent energy continued to surge out from the opposite side of the crack, emitting an invigorating aura that refreshed the beasts.

Compared to the world rift that the Fiery Beast had encountered by chance before, this green crack, though smaller, appeared much more stable.

Mixed within the surging transcendent energy were some special green energies that floated like whirling specks amid the water, attaching themselves to the surrounding rocks upon landing. The rocks were imbued with a green hue, emanating a mysterious faint glow as if they were ores.

Beneath the crack, more of the green energy, akin to essence, coalesced into minuscule crystals that settled upon the seabed.

As soon as it laid its eyes on those green crystals, the Fiery Beast felt that familiar instinctual urge to devour.
