My Secretary is a Little Sweet

Chapter 263 - The Best Men and the Bridesmaids (Part Three)

Chapter 263: The Best Men and the Bridesmaids (Part Three)

Mu Qing almost fell off the chair after hearing what Zheng Jing said.

That was his catch phrase –”I have nothing else to repay you with, what about marrying my sister to you?”

The problem was that he kept talking nonsense in front of Zhao Anan. What if she misunderstood them?

He glanced at Zhao Anan and let out a sigh of relief seeing that she had not reacted badly. But he also felt sort of disappointed when she didn’t give any reaction.

Shouldn’t Zhao Anan be glaring at him fiercely at the moment?

But before Mu Qing could clarify anything, Zheng Lun, who was apparently an introvert, spoke and corrected him in a serious yet gentle tone, “Brother, I don’t want to marry them. I told you that I won’t marry anybody. Don’t force me.”

That was what Shangguan Ning and Jing Yichen heard the moment they stepped into the room.

Jing Yichen ignored the words and maintained his calm expression. No one was able to cause a change in his expressions except for Shangguan Ning.

But Shangguan Ning felt that Zheng Lun was saying something peculiar.

Why didn’t she want to marry anybody, either?

Could Zheng Lun also have an incurable disease? It didn’t look like that.

She sat next to Jing Yichen and sized up Zheng Lun from head to toe, failing to discover any problem.

But after the meal, Shangguan Ning finally understood what the issue was.

Zheng Lun liked her brother, Zheng Jing.

She looked so dependent and loving when she with him, not like a family member but like a girlfriend!

She was completely different when she was with Zheng Jing. She was not shy and talked enough.

As for Zheng Jing... he didn’t seem to feel anything special towards her apart from regarding her as his sister and taking careful care of her. He seemed like a formal and insensitive guy, but took care of Zheng Lun patiently and carefully.

Shangguan Ning couldn’t help but sigh inside her heart as she watched them.

No wonder Zheng Lun refused to marry anyone. She must have fallen for Zheng Lun ages ago. That was why she refused to marry anybody else. But it was impossible to marry her own brother.

Why did both of her bridesmaids have such a tough life?

She had been able to give a helping hand to Zhao Anan and Mu Qing, but it was impossible with Zheng Lun.

Zheng Lun must have been so well-protected by the family that she had no idea of things. She was simply so innocent, scarily innocent.

After Shangguan Ning got to know her, she understood that she only spoke the truth about everything. She didn’t know how to lie. It made her want to take care of this innocent girl in case she was tricked by someone.

Zheng Lun obeyed everything her brother Zheng Jing said. She would absolutely not do something if her brother forbade her. It was a happy yet tormenting thing for her to have fallen for her own brother.

Shangguan Ning glanced at Jing Yichen who was taking great care of her at the lunch table and had moved all her favorite dishes to her bowl in spite of what the other four would think about it. Suddenly, she felt that she was very happy.

There was no barrier between them and they could love each other completely and openly.

Usually, Shangguan Ning tended to forbid Jing Yichen from moving all the dishes to her side, because that was a bad habit, especially in front of the guests. But she said nothing today.

Mu Qing had been used to the way Jing Yichen treated Shangguan Ning, but for Zheng Jing, it was the first time for him to see Jing Yichen treat a woman in such a way.

He even ate the food which Shangguan Ning gave to him with her chopsticks.

Wasn’t he germaphobic?

Zheng Jing knew exactly what Jing Yichen had gone through. He felt that if he had been through what Jing Yichen had experienced, he might have gone crazy.

Zheng Jing never touched him, and also kept asking people around him not to touch him, because he had been on the spot and knew why he reacted like that.

It had been Jing Yichen’s strong willpower that made him live on. Anyone else would have chosen to kill himself.

Zheng Jing had never mentioned anything about the past to anyone, not even to his close buddy, Mu Qing. For one thing, he had no idea how to describe the horrible incidents in the past and for another, these were Jing Yichen’s private matters and he had no right to reveal them.

During the past few years, Jing Yichen had gradually become normal and started to appear less like a frozen iceberg.

After he got married, he underwent tremendous changes that people simply got astonished at the sight of him.

Zheng Jing was also very curious about what kind of woman Shangguan Ning was that she was able to reduce the burden from Jing Yichen’s chest and open his heart.

But after spending some time with Shangguan Ning, he didn’t find her anything special except for her beautiful looks and her gentle personality.

Shangguan Ning brought people comfort. She seemed to be born with friendliness that even his sister, Zheng Jing who didn’t like hanging out with strangers, had taken to her immediately and showed her willingness to interact with her.

Shangguan Ning could sense that Zheng Jing was sizing up her. She looked up and smiled at him before turning her head to listen to what Jing Yichen was saying.

Jing Yichen leaned forward and found some rice remaining at the corner of her lip. So he removed it and said in a gentle and spoiling tone, “Rice on the face, just like a child!”

Shangguan Ning didn’t care much about it, because that was what Jing Yichen often did when they were eating at home. Instead, she asked, “Any more left?”

Jing Yichen looked carefully and then wiped her face clean before saying, “No.”

Shangguan Ning resumed eating after that.

Zheng Lun saw their intimate gestures and found them to be a happy couple.

She envied Shangguan Ning a great deal for living with the man she loved. But it seemed that she herself wouldn’t have such an opportunity in the future.

She had been protecting the love hidden inside her heart, fearing that someone would notice it or worse, her brother would see it.

But a part of her also hoped that her brother could see it.

Zheng Jing looked away from Shangguan Ning and noticed the change of expression on his sister’s face.

She was innocent like a piece of white paper. Did she really think that what stayed in the bottom of her heart could be concealed from him, whom she spent day and night with?

He was one of the best policemen in A City. How would he not be able to tell whether an innocent girl was lying or not?
