Chapter 378: Ch.377 Spoils of War

Su Ming caught the flying Cloak of Levitation and carefully examined the treasures it had gathered, piling them on the ground.

Diana had no objections to Deathstroke's actions. While Kent was a friend of the Justice League, it was very likely he was now gone, with Nabu occupying that body.

Therefore, taking Nabu's magical items was, in a way, weakening Nabu's power, which was tactically important.

Diana didn't like looting or destruction, but only when it wasn't necessary. If it was for the sake of justice, she could take any measure.

The Cloak of Levitation had found a lot of items, even digging out the magic core of the stove used for cooking in the Mage's Tower.

However, not many of the items were useful to Su Ming. Most were items meant for wizards, and if he were a spellcaster, his power might have significantly increased from this haul—such as the dozen or so beautiful wands, and some magical books full of rune-like symbols.

But these things were of little use to him; he couldn't exactly use the wands to smack people, could he? If he could activate the magic on the wands, he wouldn't mind cosplaying as Gandalf, but he had tried, and the wands in his hands felt lifeless.

At least for now, they were unusable. He would study them later when he had more time.

There were also some small magical trinkets, but the magic items from Nabu's place required magical power to activate, meaning they had an entry requirement. Arabella could surely use them, but Su Ming was lacking.

He planned to distribute a few of these trinkets to the sorceress, so she could use them in the coming battles.

Finally, he found something he recognized: a Silver Scarab Amulet.

Although the name sounded similar to Doctor Fate's Silver Scarab Suit, it was not the same thing; these were cursed items.

Of course, calling them cursed might not be entirely accurate, but if we were to make a comparison, it would be similar to a lich's phylactery in D&D, or perhaps more like a horcrux from Harry Potter.

Inside the Silver Scarab Amulet was an extremely evil soul, often a powerful ancient Egyptian sorcerer whose soul had achieved immortality.

They inhabited these amulets, and anyone who wore them would gain great magical power, but would gradually be mentally influenced until, in the end, the ancient sorcerer's soul would fully take over.

The amulets were indeed beautiful—made of silver and inlaid with gems, with a unique magical glow that was both mysterious and tempting.

They were the kind of thing that, if an unsuspecting traveler were to stumble upon them, they'd be tempted to drip blood and try to claim them instantly.

But if one really did that, it would be unclear who would be in control later—the wearer's soul or the powerful undead spirit inside.

Su Ming had only ever seen one Silver Scarab Amulet in the comics before, containing the soul of Has Shet, the High Priest of Egypt's First Dynasty.

And now, in front of him, there were at least a dozen of them.

These could definitely be put to use, but not for direct use.

The souls inside these amulets had, in a way, cheated death, which wasn't good at all. If they didn't die, how could they reincarnate?

So Su Ming planned to do a good deed and deliver them to Death herself. Perhaps that smiling little girl would reward him with something nice.

He'd put that plan on hold for now, to deal with once things here were done—he could cross into the Dreaming to get there.

He stored the Silver Scarab Amulets in his bag, and then his gaze landed on the final magical item.

It looked like one of those eye symbols often depicted in Egyptian pharaoh illustrations—a stylized eye made of gold.

It resembled the Eye of Horus, but in fact, it was the "Eye of Ra."

Ra was one of the oldest Egyptian gods, the Sun God who had always been the highest deity in Egypt. He fused with Horus to become Ra-Horakhty, meaning "Ra of the Two Horizons," and also fused with Amun to become Amun-Ra.

His means of rule differed from Zeus—whenever another god tried to rise and take power, Ra would actively merge with them to form a new godly persona, eventually achieving victory and taking control.

Even Horus had failed and was left with the role of Pharaoh's protector.

Now, Su Ming understood that, aside from Heaven and Hell, the gods from other pantheons were actually ancient sorcerers. So perhaps mythology wasn't exactly the same as in his past life.

To tell the difference between the Eye of Horus and the Eye of Ra was simple: Horus only had his right eye—he was a one-eyed god.

If it was a golden left eye, with raptor-like characteristics, then it was the Eye of Ra.

The item was powerful in its own way, but in today's technological age, it was akin to a satellite. Like Hera's Sky Mirror, it was a surveillance tool used to observe the Earth.

Moreover, it had limitations. As a Sun God's artifact, it could only see the half of Earth that was in daylight.

The ancient Egyptian sorcerers, after ascending to godhood, had divided power too finely, which led to numerous limitations when creating artifacts like these.

Want to use the Eye of Ra to look underground? No, that's Geb's domain.

Want to see underwater? That's also restricted—every lake, river, or sea had a ruler.

So, in Su Ming's hands, its best use was a through-wall vision ability (daytime only).

Su Ming was quite pleased as he stored it away. It might be useless in others' hands, but its ability to grant super vision across all sunlit areas meant that, with Deathstroke's spatial calculation abilities, he could pull off sniper shots at an unimaginable range.

However, Gauss rifles made from Divine Metal wouldn't work due to ballistic issues—perhaps he'd have to visit Green Arrow for a special bow.

He'd have Hephaestus reforge the artifact into his helmet later.

Having sorted everything out, the Cloak brought him and Diana back to regroup with the others.

In just a short while, Arabella had littered the ground with cigarette butts, while Detective Chimp was clutching the jar with the person inside, warily watching her.

"Seemed like there was some noise earlier," Arabella raised an eyebrow, her voice hoarse from the tobacco.

"We'll talk about it outside. We've made significant progress, at least in understanding what the enemy is," Su Ming pointed to the wall they'd come in through. With Nabu gone and Barry also returned, they needed Arabella to open the door.

There was no need for any magical incantation—the sorceress simply blasted a hole in the wall with a fireball, avoiding the unstable rifts in the surrounding space as they all returned to the mountain peak outside the small town.

"Ah, fresh air!" Bobo took a few deep breaths, sounding almost asthmatic. He hadn't felt good in that tower, whether it was due to the oppressive atmosphere or Arabella beside him.

"Alright, Arabella, what's your strongest spell? Blow this place up," the sorceress was staring absentmindedly at the sky, smoking, while Su Ming made his request.

She tapped the cigarette against her chin. "Are you sure? This is one of the world's three magical pillars. I can't be certain what'll happen if we blow it up."

"Magic is just stolen witchfire; the notion of magical pillars can't be trusted anymore. Blow it up. If the sky falls, Heaven's there to hold it up."

"Heh, I like the way you think."
