Chapter 259: Family drama 3

Seated around the big dining table, the entire family, each had a different thought but wore a faade.

Old Mr. Amanfo sat at the head of the table and the left and right side of the tables were occupied by each brother's family.

''Grandpa'' Lucy was the first to speak and everyone's eyes was on her.

''En, Lucy, what is it?'' the old man looked at Lucy and she smiled.

''George is taking up a new challenge. He was offered a case that involved the Prestigious Mensah family in D-City''

At the mention of his family name, Ronald looked up and furrowed his brows. He was certainly sure that was his family because they were the only Mensah's in the whole of D-City.

''The Mensah family?'' the old man asked and turned to look at George who was sitting beside Lucy. George smiled and nodded politely as he took notice of everyone's gaze.

''It happened that way, grandpa'' George said.

''George is being humble. This isn't the first time he has represented such type of families, right George? He just prefers to stay low key''

''Why speak about it if you know he wants to remain low key?'' Vera murmured as she ate her food.

''Cousin in law, I am just telling grandpa about a few of the numerous achievement that George had to his resume. Don't you know that commenting when you are not asked to is rude? Also, I didn't even commend on the fact that Kristine's boyfriend is just a doctor. A lot of doctors are getting into lawsuits off late. Cousin, if your boyfriend ever needs help, don't forget that we have a lawyer in the family now''

''I will never need a lawyer because I am extremely good at what I do'' Ronald said looking at Lucy whose smile disappeared after hearing such words.

''That's right. Ronald doesn't need a lawyer, but off course, I do acknowledge that you are very good at what you do, George'' Kristine added and George smiled but his gaze turned to Ronald. He seemed to have a lot of suspicion and questions in his heart as he looked at the former.

Truth was, George hadn't secured the case of representing the Mensah family. He was just among three other lawyers in their firm that were been considered for that case and he had just told Lucy about it and didn't expect her to use it to brag in front of her family. The more he looked at Ronald the more he resembled the youngest son of the Mensah's that was also the most secretive member in the family. He had done his investigation on all four sons and a daughter of the family and could only find little information on the youngest who also turned out to be a doctor.

George wondered if there were such kind of coincidence in the world that the one sitting across him could also turn out to be the last son of the Mensah family. He was really curious but he didn't also have the courage to ask him because Ronald had a distinct aura that seemed to suggest he wasn't an easy person to deal with.

From his investigation, the youngest was the most stubborn of all the five children. He had defiled the rules of the family to become a doctor and rumour had it that he also rejected the fiance that was betrothed to him. He was also a genius doctor that had succeeded in a lot of surgeries.

Ronald looked up and met with George's questioning gaze and simply smiled before going back to eating his food. He would occasionally put pour fish and meat into Kristine's bowl making the latter to blush. They looked like the perfect couple in everyone's eyes.

''So, Ronald, Kris said you are a doctor?'' Aunt Meg asked and Ronald looked at her and nodded with a smile.

''Yes, that's right''

''You're so lucky Kris. I must warn you, hold on tight to this handsome doctor. Tell you what, our Kris isn't that lucky with love'' Aunt Meg continued.

''Can we not talk about me?'' Kristine said softly.

''He is your boyfriend Kris, no need to be shy'' Aunt Meg said and smiled innocently at Kristine who found her even more hypocritical.

''Unless you're just putting up an act Kris. Ever since you two arrived, you don't really look like you're together. You were being polite and didn't even hold hands for long'' Lucy looked at Kristine and smirked, knowing she was starting to get on Kristine's nerves.

''What do you mean, Lucy? I was with them a week ago and I can tell they love each other'' Mrs. Kate spoke. She was anxious that the old man would get angry with Kris again but it seemed the other family wanted that to happen anyways.

Kristine banged her fist on the table and looked at Lucy, ''what exactly do you plan on getting out of this, Lucy? Do you want grandpa to hate me that much? It's that why you want to make everyone believe that I don't like Ronald or we are not really together? It seems you won't be happy until grandpa finally disowns me, right?''

Hitting the nail on the head, Lucy became flustered that her plans were uncovered but she kept an innocent faade, ''Kris, how could you say about me? I was only asking you a simple question because you just broke up with your fianc not long ago and here you are already with another man. honestly, I don't think I am the only one who finds this strange. This man here is fake, right?'' she looked at Kristine sternly.

''Which part of me looks fake to you Miss Lucy? I don't usually get into family drama but it doesn't mean I will watch you throw shade on my girlfriend. You must have made your investigations and have evidence. If you can prove that what I have with Kris is fake, I will admit it but if you can't; you will apologise and also give 5% of what you will get from your grandfather to Kristine over here'' Ronald's voice sounded crisp and clear.

''What?'' Lucy turned hysteric but grandpa simply looked at Ronald with admiration. It was the same with Nelson, and Uncle Max. ''You con artiste, you finally showing your colours, right? I knew you were a fake'' Lucy turned to her parents and then to grandpa, ''everyone, you saw that right? Kris brought this man here to scam us''

''Scam or not. do you dare to bring evidence? If you defame him like this and it turns out that you are wrong, you are going to get into a lot of trouble, cousin in law'' Vera said smugly.

''Lucy, that's enough'' George tried to stop her. just now, the way Ronald spoke confirmed his suspicions. He was the last son of the Mensah's family and if Lucy offends him, it will destroy his chances of getting the case that could propel his career.

''No, George. You have to take my side. He is a fraud who is out for our family's inheritance. Mom, dad, you have to let this man understand that we are not easily fooled''

''Lucy, do you have proud of all the allegations that you are levelling against Kristine's boyfriend?'' Uncle Max asked looking at her.

''I'' she looked at her father who nodded his head and she continued, ''grandpa, I have proof''

''Really?'' the old man finally spoke, his voice sounded amusing, ''show us then'' he was a man who only believed in evidence.

'Before Kristine came here. Her fianc whom she almost got married to, broke up with her. because of the clause of inheritance, she decided to look for a fake fianc to come here with her. she even went to numerous dates with different men that her three friends arranged for and this man here was one of those men. He is fake and I believe even his so called career is also fake'' she finished and turned to look at Ronald and Kristine. Kristine was angry but Ronald held her hand firmly under the table preventing her from reacting.

''I see. Ronald and Kristine, what do you have to say to that?'' the old man turned to the duo, ''before you give us an explanation, I like things done fairly so, if you are lying to me, you will equally give 5% of your inheritance to Lucy here. so, explain yourselves properly''

''Grandpa, it is true that I tried to hire men to come here and pose as my fianc but Ronald wasn't one of them. Ronald and I first met as a patient and a doctor when he saved my life. After that, we kept running into each other and became friends. he is a real doctor and not a fraud''

''Then, why is he here as your boyfriend when he is just your friend?'' Lucy asked.

''Because I love her. I am courting Kristine and decided to come with her because I wanted to meet her family and become more close to her. It's that such a bad thing to do?'' Ronald spoke and turned to look at everyone.

''I didn't know following one's heart was now equal to fraud'' Vera said sarcastically.
