Chapter 449 Bulletin Board, Hosting A Tribulation

Ascension Realm Cultivators didn't need to sleep anymore, as long as they Cultivated once every few years. That said, sometimes it was a good way to just relax. If there wasn't always so much to do, William wouldn't mind sleeping each night.

"Ascended Cultiv... Wil..., breakfast... ready." the hotel staff informed William through an Array that functioned much like a stationary cell phone. Their voice was slightly distorted by static, but William filled in the gaps and understood the implied meaning.

He used Magic to speed up his usual hygiene process, then calmly walked downstairs to eat a decent breakfast meal consisting of biscuits with gravy, scrambled Vibrant Rooster eggs, and Thick-Furred Bison bacon.

It wasn't the best William had ever had, but it was a close second. The Vibrant Rooster eggs were so fluffy and perfectly spiced that made his mouth tingle all over, and the gravy was neither too runny nor too solid.

If he had to guess the level of chef that prepared the food, it had to be someone with at least an equivalent to the SS-Rank Cooking Talent. It could only be made better if he was the one to personally prepare the food, because the ingredients were such high quality.

Atticus also came out of hiding and had a bit of William's food. It had remained largely unnoticed by the Cultivators in Great Rouge, and those who had noticed didn't seem to say anything. Nothing in the rules prevented the existence of Companion Beasts, so it probably wasn't worth mentioning.

As long as Atticus didn't cause trouble, William could freely bring him out.

William checked out of the hotel after breakfast and returned to the market. Even though the sun was still trapped in eternal sunset, William's understanding of time told him that it was around six in the morning; fewer people would be out this time of day, and the stalls of the market hadn't even been opened yet.

William activated some brand-new Arrays on his Illusionist's Cloak that better concealed his charm, then approached a series of signs that displayed a few local job postings and announcements.

Bulletin boards like this were scattered across the city, but William hadn't had a chance to approach them because of the Physical Charm issue.

He read down the list one by one.

"Criminal activity is on the rise, looking to hire more guards with skills specialized in detection and tracking."

Hmm, interesting. I don't feel like becoming a slave to the city, though. I need to gather more resources for my Resistance Talents, and being restricted to Great Rouge won't help me much.

"Searching for a strong man to spend the night with~" the residual aura on the notice was masculine in nature.

Uh... if that's what I think that is... no.

-You're not a strong man? I think this would be great for you.

The System's words seemed serious, but a mental snicker made William frown. I'd rather not sell my body for money, thank you very much.

"Slightwing Family recruitment. If you show promise, we will commit countless resources to help you win the Slightveil Cultivator's Induction Competition."

Join a family? It wouldn't be bad, but the restrictions are probably similar to being a guard. I might have a little more freedom of movement, but it's still not worth it.

I wonder about this competition though...

William screened the remaining notices for anything interesting, but he eventually settled on searching for information about the Induction Competition. If he could gain an entry ticket of some sort without joining the family, William might be able to gain some benefits.

-A Cultivator is preparing to Ascend in your World. Arrange a suitable Tribulation for them.

The System message caught William off guard. Who was Ascending, and why did he have to hold the Tribulations?

William was about to ask, but he realized that the System said the Heavens no longer have authority over the Worlds he integrated into his Sea of Consciousness. With that said, it naturally implied that he would now control their Cultivation.

The Mana Density on both Worlds is quite low, but it's easy to guess that the Ascender is on Efretta. William thought as he controlled his consciousness to partially descend into the World.

This method was much like how Golden Girl peered into Efretta, but the distance was much shorter and there was no pair of giant eyes in the sky. Instead, his intrusion was mostly undetectable, only associated with William's unique aura.

He scanned all over the World Efretta and searched for the potential Ascender, quickly locating a beat-up old man that was facing a group of what William suspected to be three Players in the Soul Formation Realm.

The old man's Cultivation was at the very peak of the Tribulation Transcendence Realm, but he was quickly losing his advantage against the group, whose Talents allowed them to shorten the gap between them and other peak Cultivators. As they battled, the old man must have been pressed to force his Ascension early.

The System informed William that he didn't have to begin the Tribulation if he didn't want to, but it would result in a minor backlash that would weaken William by five percent for a few weeks. If he continued to postpone Tribulations, the consequences would intensify.

These were the rules that the Heavens had to follow when managing their Worlds, and so too did William. He gathered Mana of the Lightning Element in his consciousness, but he checked to make sure none of his aura was leaking out of the main body before continuing with the Tribulation.

William's Cultivation and Magic ability was almost perfect for conducting a Tribulation for Ascending Cultivators. He used eighty percent of his Lightning Element's potential to conjure a powerful Lightning Bolt, allowing it to fall at a gradual pace on the old man's body.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om

William's move was unpracticed, but he managed to keep the situation under control using his Mana Dominator Talent. The old man survived the first blow with gritted teeth, but he continued to fight against the three Players while simultaneously preparing for the second Lightning.

The old man was only partially focused on the Tribulation, so he didn't notice the irregularities, but the three Players did. The usual Heavenly Aura wasn't present at all, and they almost felt like they were dealing with a simple Magic Spell from a high-level Cultivator.

It made them wonder if the old man they were facing was just playing tricks, or if there was some kind of change in the World that they weren't aware of. Either way, it made the Players treat the battle much more seriously, and they even brought out powerful Artifacts that they had earned over the last few years.

The Cultivator that was undergoing the Tribulation found himself in a dangerous position as the third and fourth Lightning Bolts fell. He was already struggling to deal with the three Players before, but the increase in the Tribulation's strength combined with their new Artifacts made him start to lose hope.

He brought out special Artifacts in his possession to help defend against the Players, but they weren't nearly as expensive or useful as those owned by the opposing party, so it didn't shift the favor at all.
