Chapter 460 – Easy Promotion

Exorcist headquarters.

Usually, people would have an image of an old church or an agency where they took requests from people.

Or they could also imagine an old, dilapidated place with an eerie atmosphere and lit by lanterns.

In the Void Box, such places weren’t used for exorcists’ base of operation. It was just inefficient.

Would people report about ghost appearances to old churches? No. They would be afraid to get close to such a building.

Old and dilapidated building? They were dirty. It was unfit for an activity.

So, where did the Exorcist headquarters were located?

"I guessed many places but not this one." Max muttered in amazement as he looked at the place in front of him. "Train station? Sure enough, this place is good for fast mobility."

Yes.

The exorcist headquarters in Void Box was located in the biggest steam train station in London City.

Not only was this place bustling with activity, but it was also a hub where people could move around to other cities faster than anyone by boarding the train.

It had technology to contact other train stations too, so communication problems were fixed. In this game, the train station was the center of information and activity.

— Totally not expected either. I was guessing a luxurious church!

— I was expecting a police station where they have this FAX thing, but this is cooler!

— So this world is just like Mercenary Quest where the train station is important

— Somehow, the developers love the train station. I wonder if their house is also a train station. Or better yet, they live in a train

— lolol what are you saying? Train models aside, having a train as a house is insane!

— True. The fuel cost alone will drive them bankrupt!

Max nodded along as he entered the train station. He agreed with the last guy, but he also thought that living inside a train carriage would be cool. He slept in a cargo carriage before when he had a challenge with his friends to cross a country by taking a train without paying. It was fun.

As usual, the blue fire led him inside the building. In this game, the train station was divided into 2 floors. On the first floor was the waiting area where trains stopped and people boarded. While on the second floor was the information counter and VIP section.

Max followed the fire to the second floor. He walked past the stairs and passed by a few NPCs who were wearing suits and hats. This second floor was just a disguised VIP section. Only exorcists were allowed up here.

— I bet Breeze is heading to the secret meeting room lol Continue your adventure with empire

— Just watch, he will meet another handsome man playing exorcist. And then...

— Keep your imagination by yourself. You will get banned lol

— Nah, our imagination is safe. Mods don’t ban us for such a small thing.

Max shook his head as he arrived in front of the VIP elevator. This was where the blue fire ended, telling him that this was where he should enter next.

He pressed the button to open the door and stepped inside. Then, he pressed the only button inside. He didn’t know where it would take him, but he guessed underground.

The door closed. The elevator moved down.

Then, it stopped.

Ding!

Max stepped out of the elevator and entered a dark hallway. At the end of the hallway was a red carpet that extended from the elevator door to a wooden door at the end.

Following the red carpet, Max arrived in front of the door.

"This is the Exorcist HQ?" He wondered quietly, looking around.

There were no NPCs or signs that there was an activity happening here. But, this atmosphere and the red carpet told him otherwise.

He opened the door and entered a dimly lit room. A strong smell of cigar attacked his nose.

Someone was sitting behind a table, smoking while looking at a paper. He was big, muscular, and wore a black overcoat with golden lining.

There was one problem, though. He was bald. And he was white and black.

He was a panda.

— Holy shit, a Panda!

— Goddamn! What’s with this game?!

— He looks handsome! I am swooned!

— The extinct animal is revived!

Max stood still in surprise for a few seconds before a notification popped up in front of him.

[New objective! Meet the Exorcist Chief.]

Max read it and sighed.

"Excuse me..."

The panda looked up from the paper and looked at Max with his squinted eyes.

"Ah? What did you say? Speak louder!" He shouted angrily.

"Spirits stand beside us; fear has no place in this realm." Max said loudly.

His mouth moved by itself. The cutscene had started.

The panda’s eyes shone as he sat straight and smiled.

"Good, good. Welcome to Exorcist HQ! I am the chief here, named Blackpanda. You may call me Blackie if you want to get friendly with me! Hahaha!" He laughed heartily while Max felt like rolling his eyes.

In his half-transparent state, Max looked at the chat and found them all sighing.

— Why does this scene feels so familiar?

— How savage to give this handsome panda chief a lame name.

— He looks cute! Call him Blackie!

— Wait, I feel deja vu. I think I saw this somewhere

Max also felt deja vu. It was the same when he talked with that old lady. Was everyone in this world deaf?

— Oh, right! It’s the old lady in the beginning!

— Now I remember. Deaf NPCs everywhere!

— lol, that lady got roasted by Breeze and now this panda got roasted by us too!

The chat looked pretty happy with it, though.

"Good job at exorcising 2 low-level wind spirits in a night. This is above and beyond what I expect from a new exorcist." Blackpanda said as he lifted his cigar to his mouth.

Smoke came out of his mouth as he continued.

"That’s why, I am going to assign you a new mission. There is a village near London City called Kearse Village. Travel there and exorcise the evil spirit haunting it. If you succeed, you will be promoted to rank 3 exorcist immediately! Good luck!"

The cutscene ended as Max got a notification.

[New Objective! Exorcise the evil spirit haunting Kearse Village!]

"What is with this easy promotion system?" He asked himself as he walked out of the room. "I want to be promoted that easily too."

— Promotion in this game is so easy!

— It must be the tutorial effect. After this, he will need to work harder to get promoted!

— Rank 3 is the lowest. He should aim for rank 2!

— That’s true. I hope Breeze get a good tool there!

Max nodded. Indeed, promotion was easy. He only needed to exorcise an evil spirit and he got promoted already. Nôv(el)B\\jnn

"Well, let’s exorcise this with my trusty tong."

— Tong! Grab him with it!

— lolol, that tool is indeed hilarious. Tong is power!

— You dare to move? Hah! Try to escape my tong!

Max left the train station while laughing along with the chat. They also talked how there was a panda in the game who acted as a chief of the Exorcist HQ.

The blue fire guided him to the train. He would take it to get to his next destination.

"Next destination: Kearse Village."

The bad speaker announced before the train moved.
