Chapter 473 Twelve Thousand
"You gotta be joking..."
After painstakingly using most of his area-of-effect skills to wipe out all the monsters and quickly escape, in the end, he still wasn't able to defeat all of them fast enough.
As a result, the monstrous creatures' reinforcement had arrived before he could escape, ramping up the number of his enemies to 12,000.
Shye wasn't tired or anything, and he felt like he could go fight these creatures for hours should he have to.
It was just that their numbers were too overwhelming and he might not notice the sneaky approach of some creatures which might ultimately result in his death.
'The hell am I thinking?! Just focus! As long as I focus, I'll have a chance!'
With a resolute face, Shye faced the enormous horde of undead monsters, utterly impressing the two agents who were watching from the observation office.
"What a youngster..."
"Hahahaha! Should this kid make it past this challenge, then Valenzia would finally have someone to rely on! A true hero!"
…Unfortunately, most of Shye's mage skills were on cooldown, hence, he had to engage the monstrous creatures using his greatswords.
It was a huge risk doing so as there were simply too many enemies.
However, what could he do? He had to live.
Finally, the creatures once again charged at him, eager to rip him apart for daring to intrude on their territory.
The (C) ranked zombie warriors took the lead, followed by the ghouls, then the gargoyles and vampires.
It was an orderly attack despite the seemingly chaotic situation.
Shye didn't have time to notice, though, as his eyes were glued to the frontmost monstrous creature.
'Phew…one kill at a time…'
After taking one quick deep breath, Shye faced the incoming tide, adopting a defensive approach.
Then, a few moments later, the zombie warriors arrived within the range of his greatswords.
*SPURT!*
Almost instantly, a green, rotting head hurtled through the air, splattering pungent black blood everywhere as it rolled on the ground a few meters away from Shye's feet.
It didn't end there, though, as just shortly after, several more heads flew through the air, creating a scene of utter carnage as headless bodies fell in droves, twitching lifelessly on the ground.
The zombies brandished the random weapons in their hands as they arrived within striking distance.
However, no matter how hard they tried, none of their attacks reached Shye, as their lives had already been snuffed out before they even noticed.
Still, there were a lot of zombie warriors.
Although Shye had a fairly high stamina attribute and was currently nowhere near the word exhausted, he would easily burn through his stamina reserves should the pace of the battle remain the same.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
Moreover, he was currently only battling the (C) ranked Zombie Warriors, hence, once the ghouls and the other higher-ranked creatures managed to find some space to attack, things were bound to get harder.
The situation looked bleak, yet, there wasn't a hint of fear or despair in Shye's face, only resolute focus.
With each violent slash of his greatswords, two monstrous creatures lose their lives, turning into mere twitching corpses.
Slowly but surely, the numbers of his enemies dwindled.
Unbeknownst to Shye, it wasn't only the WAA agents who were watching him, as behind the rows of vampires stood a muscular creature with the head of a direwolf and the body of a human.
Its body was protected by tough black fur, and its main weapon was its horrifyingly sharp claws.
Shye had already encountered the creature, however, he didn't manage to get a clear glimpse of its appearance as it disappeared immediately after suffering from a solid kick.
The creature seemed to be observing Shye with wariness as he slaughtered droves of zombie warriors, though it didn't seem like it was planning to attack Shye any time soon.
After an entire hour of fighting, Shye almost wiped out the entire Zombie Warrior Army, leaving the WAA agents utterly dumbstruck.
The zombies numbered around five thousand, yet, now, only around five hundred remained.
"S-Sir Gavin, should we report this to…"
"Logan! Calm down! I know he's exceptional. However, a hero needs to be not only strong but also smart. Considering his current situation, I have some doubts about his intelligence... Well, he is a warrior-class adventurer, so this is to be expected.
If he can get through this ordeal, we can report his remarkable progress to the regional head director."
Logan knew that Shye was simply unlucky to have found himself in such a dangerous situation, and he was by no means stupid.

However, he didn't dare cover for Shye since proctors must remain impartial, and even though he would only be maintaining fairness by helping her, it would still cast doubt on his integrity.
Hence, it was better for him to just hope that Shye made it out of the scary situation alive.
Should he manage to do so and obtain the approval of the board of directors, then his chances of being Valenzia's first hero would increase significantly regardless of what level of completion he achieved.
Both Logan and Gavin were originally from Valenzia, thus, they hoped for their region to thrive.
Initially, it seemed that it would take five to ten more years before heroes emerged from the region, and the WAA Valenzia Development Department couldn't help but worry.
Monster horde attacks are becoming more frequent and if Valenzia couldn't develop fast enough, they might not be able to defend themselves.
Shye's sudden appearance was truly a pleasant surprise to the two proctors.
Things weren't looking so bright for him, though, as he was currently sweating moderately despite facing only the first and weakest army.
Next, Shye had to fight against an entire horde of ghouls.
Luckily, most of his mage skills were now off cooldown.
With a steadfast resolute face, Shye swapped weapons once more, swiftly aiming his elemental staffs toward the ghouls before firing a barrage of fire and ice.
"L-L-LOGAN!! YOU DIDN'T TELL ME THIS GUY ALREADY HAD A SUBCLASS AT SUCH A YOUNG AGE! FURTHERMORE, H-HE DIDN'T CHANT A SINGLE SYLLABLE, YET, HE WAS ABLE TO FIRE SPELLS! CARE TO EXPLAIN?!"
"Y-yes, Sir Gavin. Upon reviewing his records, we found he was well-known in the region for being born with the [Chantless Casting] talent—the same talent possessed by Frozen End, one of Valenzia's titled adventurers."
"T-Then what are you waiting for, you idiot?! Report this to the head director immediately! In the meantime, I shall watch how things turn out."
