Chapter 457 The Big Four's Prowess
Jamal's hunts were nothing short of the word shocking.
The guy looked to be around twenty-three years old, yet, he was already hunting (B-) ranked creatures.
Although it wasn't known whether the full high-grade ruby-tier armor set he wore was his, the fact remained that it was already in his inventory before the event began.
Hence, despite it being hard to believe that he gathered such top-tier equipment by himself within two years of adventuring, there was no question that he didn't break any rules.
On the surface, of course, as it would be difficult to determine whether Jamal or the individuals supporting him knew the competition's theme in advance.
And if they did, how?
Shye had no such connections or such a full high-grade high-tier equipment set, however, he wasn't envious of them in the slightest as all he needed to kill such creatures were high-tier weapons, which he already possessed.
Thus, he simply focused on watching Jamal's recording as the guy was one of his perceived rivals, and he wanted to count how many points the young man earned.
For the time being, Damien did the same.
However, he didn't care much whether he could defeat this young man as he was an entire year of adventuring behind.
To him, as long as he could defeat Shye, who was of the same generation, then he could consider himself to be their generation's strongest.
Hence, he wasn't that interested in Jamal's hunt.
Still, Damien was no slouch, and he continued to watch the recording despite his disinterest as he aimed to use it as a learning material.
Although it appeared as though he made it his life's mission to avenge his loss to Shye, he at least still had the will to continuously improve and better himself.
…Jamal was a scout-class adventurer, and his speed was no joke, hence, the people were mesmerized by his elegant maneuvers, narrowly dodging each monstrous creature's attack by a hair's breadth multiple times before viciously counter-attacking with patience.
The courage it took to perform such maneuvers was nothing short of extraordinary, and even Shye couldn't help but admire the young man's calmness in the face of such mighty attacks.
Jamal's high-tier armor set and weapon did indeed help, however, it was fairly evident that it was his own skills and bravery that got him through even the toughest of situations.
The man was still young and his combat technique wasn't perfect.
Hence, he suffered hits here and there due to miscalculating the distance.
Yet, never once did Jamal panic; his stoic expression inspired people to root for him.
After an hour quickly passed and Jamal's recording finally stopped playing, the crowd erupted in thunderous cheers, the final moments—where he managed to slay an apex (B) ranked creature called Hellrah—still fresh in their minds.
Naturally, the low-ranked visiting adventurers and the mundane folks immediately concluded that Jamal would be this year's winner.
After all, how could a rookie in his second year of adventuring, hunt a (B) ranked creature?
It was simply absurd in their inexperienced minds.
Thus, to them, Jamal already won.
Only, they immediately realized how wrong they were after the next recording had been played.
Like Jamal, the next rookie named Verson Cruz began his hunting journey by slaying (C) ranked creatures, and again, the crowd was amazed.
The difficulties of Verson's hunts rose and fell, however, it also ended with a glorious (B) ranked monster kill making the crowd go crazy in utter disbelief.
Their narrow worldviews were utterly washed away by the realities of how truly strong the elite rookies were.
Initially, they all thought that a rookie, no matter how talented, would never be able to stand up to veterans.
However, after witnessing two rookies hunt monsters that could endanger the lives of even the toughest veterans, their worldview changed.
Only, they weren't experienced enough to discern that the armor sets and weapons of both rookies were probably given to them by their families and were not obtained through the rookies' hard work.
Still, no other rookie who was also a competitor in the tournament would be stupid enough to cry "unfair" as it would only make them look bitter.
After all, these four could still defeat them in points whether they were given armor sets and weapons or not.
As for Shye, he merely watched on with a disinterested expression.
'Heh, it seems like I overestimated them. I was worried for nothing.'
His growingly arrogant heart couldn't help but disdainfully look down upon his rivals. With help from their families, all they could do was hunt an apex (B) ranked monster?
'With their skills, should they be courageous enough to try, they could defeat a few (A-) ranked monsters, no?' He mused.
It's not that they were looking down at them because they used their family's wealth to get what small advantage they could as he was aware that connections and background are a part of one's strengths.
What he found disdainful was, that the wusses didn't even try to fight an (A-) ranked monstrous creature.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
How did he know that they didn't? It was because they didn't kill one!
Shye had already battled numerous (A-) ranked creatures.
He was confident that, with their powerful armor sets, weapons, and skills, they could certainly defeat the weaker (A-) ranked monsters if they had the courage to risk their lives and the adventurous spirit to fight one to the death.
'Well, not everyone is the same.'
Shye was just a little disappointed as their region was already way behind others, and if their younger generation were a bunch of wusses, then there might be no hope for them to ever catch up.
'Hmph, whatever, Valenzia Region already has me anyway. My friends and I shall elevate it to new heights!'
His thoughts were abruptly cut short, though, as Bart's lively voice once again reverberated across the arena.
"Verson Cruz everybody! Let's give him a round of applause!"
The cheers didn't die down for quite a while, as people already believed Jamal to have won, only to find out that there was someone else who managed to hunt a (B) ranked creature.
However, promptly after it did, Bart once again spoke:
"Ladies and gentlemen, I have a question. Witnessing the capabilities of two out of the four expected winners of the competition, who else do you think has the capability to perform at such levels?"

Hearing Bart's question, the people were confused.
However, they suddenly realized that since the two recordings of two of the top four expected winners were played first, it likely meant someone else had performed at the same level.
The question was, who?
With a smile, Bart motioned for the arena staff to play the third recording.
