Chapter 636: 635 Mo Xiuchen, take good care of your wife

“Where did you get a sister-in-law from?”

Gu Kai’s brow furrowed slightly, he said in amusement.

When Wen Ran mentioned the word ‘sister-in-law,’ a beautiful face unexpectedly surfaced in his mind. Despite the passing time, he remembered it so vividly, and along with that beautiful face, a sense of vexation surged in his heart.

Wen Ran chuckled, “When you get married, I’ll have a sister-in-law. Brother, during those days we spent in A City, Qin Mu was going on blind dates every day. How about I also gather some well-known ladies for you to go on blind dates with?”

Gu Kai squinted his eyes, his gaze swept over to Mo Xiuchen who was standing next to him. “Xiuchen, manage your wife,” he suggested.

Mo Xiuchen let out a soft laugh, he then draped his arm over Wen Ran’s shoulder and sided with her. “I think what Ranran suggested makes much sense, we should propose this idea to dad, he would definitely support it. Ah Kai, Ranran wants a sister-in-law. Shouldn’t you, as an elder brother, fulfill her wish?”

“These things can’t just be arranged at will. Ranran, if you really want a sister-in-law to pamper you, I don’t mind you arranging a bunch of women to go on blind dates with Ah Jin. As for me, forget about it, I really have no plans to marry at the moment.”

“Didn’t you ask me to introduce you to a girlfriend before?”

“That was before; now, I no longer have such thoughts.” His views towards women changed after he returned from a voluntary medical service trip to the countryside.

After some more casual chatter, Wen Ran returned to the main topic, she said with a serious face, “Brother, Xiuchen had a nosebleed last night, you should give him a check-up.”

Mo Xiuchen did not expect Wen Ran to suddenly bring this up, his expression froze for a moment, but he quickly regained his composure and said with a smile, “Ranran, didn’t I explain this to you last night?”

Wen Ran thought of his explanation last night and the passionate kiss afterwards, her little face blushed slightly, but she maintained her belief, “Xiuchen, get a check-up done. Only if everything is okay will I be truly relieved.”

Gu Kai’s gaze flickered, he gently said, “Xiuchen, just get a check-up done. Let Ranran be at ease.”

Mo Xiuchen gave a helpless smile as he said, “Alright, whatever check-up needs to be done, I will cooperate.”

Upon hearing his agreement, Wen Ran’s look of concern was immediately replaced by a smile, her eyes sparkling, “Xiuchen, you don’t need to be scared. I will be with you.”

Mo Xiuchen’s lips twitched, “I’m not scared. Ranran, don’t you have something to do with Yuting? You’d better go find her first and I will catch up with you when I’m done with my check-up.”

Wen Ran didn’t insist, instead, she nodded and smiled, “Okay, then I’ll go find Sister Ting. Brother, remember to give Xiuchen a thorough examination.” After she finished speaking, she left the office.

She closed the door behind her then headed towards the elevator, her lips pursed.

Inside the office, Gu Kai’s gaze sharply measured Mo Xiuchen. The latter leaned back on the couch calmly, unaffected by Gu Kai’s scrutiny.

He did not even avoid his gaze.

“Xiuchen, when did you start having nosebleeds?”

After a long pause, Gu Kai sighed lightly and asked in a gentle tone.

Mo Xiuchen gave a vague smile and casually replied, “Yesterday was the second instance. Don’t look at me with that ‘I’m on the verge of death’ face. It’s not as serious as you think.”

“Xiuchen!”

Gu Kai suddenly became stern, he looked seriously displeased.

“Ah Kai, you used to say that I was too concerned, but now it seems to me that you are the one who’s overly anxious. You’re a doctor who should be inured to life-and-death scenarios. Aren’t your emotions changing too easily? Luckily Ranran is not here, otherwise…”

His voice lowered, not finishing his sentence.

Gu Kai understood, his face showed a mix of frustration and regret, “I will give you a comprehensive examination right now. My dad told me that if your condition ever changed, I was to inform him immediately. But you, you had no intention of telling me unless Ranran brought it up,”

Hearing Gu Kai’s grumbles and worries, Mo Xiuchen felt warm inside his heart. He let a small smile escape from the corner of his mouth as he gentle replied, “Ah Kai, I don’t shrug off my health as you claimed; in fact, it’s quite the contrary.”

He didn’t want to part with Ranran, if possible, he hoped to spend the rest of his life with her.

Even if Gu Yan and Joseph didn’t manage to research a cure for his illness, he hoped he could spend as much time as possible with Ranran.

Recently, whenever she went to work at the Wen Family Company, he appeared to merely drop her off at the office and leave. However, that wasn’t the case, instead, he sat in a coffee shop across the pharmaceutical factory, sipping on coffee and observed their office building through the transparent window.

Even though he was so close, he still felt a sense of emptiness. He wasn’t used to not being able to see her all the time. He was fully aware that this habit wasn’t good, yet he couldn’t refrain from wanting to see her every minute and second.

Going to oversee Haochen was a promise he had made to Luo Haofeng while he was in A City. Later on, he and An Lin had a conversation over the phone, agreeing that he would go in the next couple of days.

But he couldn’t bear to leave Ranran and ended up delaying day after day. At the moment when he broached the subject to Ranran the previous night, he was hesitant and reluctant.

Gu Kai remained silent, the atmosphere in the office became heavy.

Mo Xiuchen was not afraid of death, what troubled him was his reluctance. Seeing the worried Gu Kai, he couldn’t help but laugh, “Ah Kai, I’m mentally prepared.”

Gu Kai shot him a resentful glance. His annoyance was due to either his laughter or his keeping the nosebleeds secret. Gu Kai gritted his teeth as he warned, “You had better always maintain this positive outlook and fulfill your promise to wait until my dad and them research the medication to cure your illness.”

Mo Xiuchen nodded, “I will wait for that day.”

The moment he finished saying that, his cellphone rang.

“You go ahead and answer the phone first.” Gu Kai, who had stood up, suddenly sat back down on the couch as he heard Mo Xiuchen’s phone ring. He picked up the water glass in front of him and drank half of the cup in one gulp.

Mo Xiuchen pressed the answer button and nonchalantly answered the phone with a ‘hello’.

“Xiuchen, it’s me. You and Ranran should come home for dinner tonight.”

The person on the phone was Mo Jingteng, his voice was cheerful, showing he was in a good mood.

Mo Xiuchen’s eyes narrowed, he disregarded his good mood and flatly rejected, “Ranran and I don’t have time today.”

“Xiuchen, I don’t mean anything else. I just haven’t seen you guys in a while and miss you. I also heard that Ranran’s illness is cured now, so I thought we would celebrate. If you guys are not available today, then how about tomorrow?”

Mo Xiuchen frowned. They had only been back for a few days, and they certainly didn’t broadcast the fact that Ranran’s illness was cured. He wondered how Mo Jingteng knew Ranran was already well.

“Xiuchen, I already have one foot in the grave. I acknowledge your resentment towards me and won’t beg for your forgiveness, however, I hope…”
