CHAPTER 502 — Fang and Sun's Engagement
Following the discussion Kai Beifang and Long Fan had, the latter received a push from his wife to push through for their engagement to save her daughter and the family from embarrassment.
Once again, he was made to recall his seething rage when he discovered Fang Daiyu was pregnant out of wedlock.
**Flashback**
"You what?!" Kia Beifang thundered, sending the glass cup in his hand down to the tiled floor as he glared daggers at his stepdaughter.
He usually prided her on Andromeda, claiming she was well cultured and mannered. Especially after the scandal Andromeda had, he couldn't believe what a public whorish image she chose for herself and the route she chose to go dating Liu Xueyi.
Especially when he came out to claim he was the one. Kai Beifang's anger surged and he never wanted more than anything to distance himself from Andromeda like that period.
Now, the one he took pride in, it turned out she too put him to shame.
He exhaled sharply, his brows furrowing deeply as his gaze locked on hers. "How could you, Daiyu?"
"Father."
'Don't you dare call me that!" Kai Beifang snapped. "I raised you and this is how you can repay me, by putting a dent to my family name?!"
His rage rose, his eyes blazing with untold fury as the sound of his voice shook the vicinity and anymore within ear range shuddered under his wrath.
Fang Mei was not spared. Turning in her direction, he snapped. "And you. Is this all you can teach her? Have you learnt nothing after years of being with me?"
Hatred, disdain, anger.
Those emotions flashed in his eyes but Fang Mei was far from getting scared like her daughter who cowered close to one of the couches in the house, frightened.
"Family name?!" her gaze darkened as she stood up from where she sat, her eyes bearing her own anger. She challenged him, not letting him off the hook.
"How dare you call your family name here as the one who is embarrassed? Or have you forgotten you refused to change her surname to yours?!"
"What?"
"Don't what me. She fell in love and allowed her feelings to take over. Besides that, don't young people her age these days do that? What's so new?"
His brows knitted, his lips tugging down in a disapproving frown. "She could have used protection. And not soil her name and bring disgrace to us."
"There is no disgrace! If there is anything, it proves she is fertile and once the knot is tied with the Sun family, our reputation will increase in society and so will your business name."
"Wait… what?"
The wrinkles on his forehead relaxed. Up till now, he did not know how it was that impregnated her until he heard the Sun family name.
Sensing his interest, Fang Mei continued. "She and Sun Yichen are in love. He is the one she is pregnant for."
She noticed the flexes in his brows. He did that when he was in deep thought, contemplating a decision.
Being the snake that she was, she took hold of her opportunity to implant the needed words to Kai Beifang and make him see her reasons, understanding them without coming off as strong and revealing the truth behind her schemes.
After much talk, Kai Beifang nodded, releasing a huff. "Fine. I'll need to see Sun Yichen. He needs to take responsibility."
"Thank you. This is what I expected of you from the start rather than…" Fang Mei did not get to finish her words when his stare silenced her, making her swallow any more vile words she planned on uttering that would piss him off.
lightsΝοvel "Ahem. You have stressed the young girl much. Let her take a rest. It isn't good for her pregnancy," Fang Mei suggested.
"Fine," Kai Beifang said with a dismissal wave. The longer she spoke, the more he felt his headache increase. "You can do as you please. Leave me now. I want to be alone."
"Sure."
**Flashback Ends**
That was how things progressed and led to this point.
The engagement party for Fang Daiyu and Sun Yichen was a grand affair, held in a lavish ballroom adorned with magnificent decorations.
The venue shimmered with the warm glow of chandeliers, casting a golden hue over the festivities.
It was a night that marked not just the union of two individuals but also the strengthening of an alliance between the influential Kia Group and the well-known Sun Group.
Fang Daiyu, the radiant bride-to-be, was a vision of elegance in her couture gown. Unsurprisingly, Fang Mei did not spare a chance to showcase her daughter's beauty.
Standing beside her and exuding an air of regal confidence was Fang Mei, raising her chin as she stared at everyone from her high horse.
They held themselves high, the epitome of grace and poise, as they welcomed the guests who had gathered to celebrate this momentous occasion.
Well-wishers and dignitaries from both business empires mingled, their conversations filled with the clinking of champagne glasses and the hum of excitement.
As Fang Daiyu and her mother graciously accepted congratulatory wishes, their smiles were as dazzling as the diamonds that adorned them.
"To think Kai Beifang ever compared you to Andromeda," Fang Mei voiced with bitterness and scoffed. "You are ten times better."
"Mother," Fang Daiyu called softly, a hint of mischief in her tone while her eyes held a soft pretentious smile.
"What? With all her connection to Liu Xueyi, she hasn't managed to get him to engage her. Shouldn't that tell you he is just using her?" Fang Mei speculated.
"As true as that maybe, now is not the occasion. Do not soil your mood with her problem. It is your night. Enjoy."
"Absolutely daughter, I will."
In the midst of the celebration, Sun Yichen spotted a familiar face in the crowd. Yu An had made an unexpected appearance.
Not that he did not expect her. He knew a woman of her calibre wouldn't want to show her face, but her curiosity was one to get the better of her.
And she did as she pleased.
With a determined stride, he made his way through the throng of guests, his tailored suit emphasizing his confident demeanour, giving him a look that virtually any woman would die for.
Yu An, however, seemed to have other plans.
She tried to evade Sun Yichen's approach, moving through the crowd like a wisp of smoke.
It was only when she reached a more secluded area, hidden from prying eyes, that she finally stopped and turned to face him.
Sun Yichen's feet came to an abrupt halt as he stood there, tall and handsome.
Staring down at her, Sun Yichen felt the same spark he usually felt when their fling began. The tension between them was intense.
On the other hand, Yu An's lips curled into a seductive smile as she swirled a glass of red wine with her slender fingers, her gaze locked onto Sun Yichen's.
Sun Yichen was momentarily caught off guard by her presence and actions. Quickly, he regained his composure.
He offered a polite nod, acknowledging her with a hint of surprise in his eyes. "Yu An," he greeted, his voice as smooth as silk. "I didn't expect to see you here."
Her laughter was like a melodious chime as she took a slow sip of her wine, never breaking eye contact. She knew that was a lie.
She never got an invite, which meant two things.
He did not want her to come. Probably because of their affair.
But the fact that it happened alone, and not once, proved to her that his marriage was just a business arrangement of some sort and nothing more.
No love.
Both parties used each other like they did now.
Secondly, he did want her there but wished to see if she would be daring enough to barge in, announcing her undeniable presence like she did, gliding like a nymph, leaving men stunned and captivated.
"Well, surprises can be delightful, can't they, Yichen?" she purred, her tone dripping with suggestive allure.
He couldn't deny the magnetism that still lingered between them, the memories of their shared past.
But he chose to steer the conversation towards safer waters. Besides, he was a man sought after by most young ladies. He knew how to play hard to get and make his allure irresistible as well.
"Indeed, they can be," Sun Yichen replied, his gaze unwavering.
"Congratulations on your engagement." Yu An's laughter was sultry, a mixture of amusement and something more enigmatic almost as though she did not mean it.
"Thanks. Although I loved our other engagements of the past," he mentioned, eyeing her from the corners of his eyes slightly as he took a step to the side.
"Engagement, you say? That's a word that seems to slip your mind, Yichen."
Sun Yichen furrowed his brow, a trace of confusion flickering across his features. "I'm not sure what you mean, Yu An."
She leaned in closer, her voice a sultry whisper meant for his ears alone. "Don't you remember, darling? What we had? Or should I say, what you had with me?"
The weight of her words hung in the air, and Sun Yichen's gaze bore into hers.
She wanted him, missed him just like he did, even though she called them off.
How typical.
