Divine Harem: My Sect of Heavenly Beauties

Chapter 241 Rick Conway (1)

241  Rick Conway (1)

The dimly lit hospital corridor was filled with deathly silence, as everyone sat there, tears running down their faces. There were a total of five people, all of them barely containing their tears.

In the next moment, the room at the end of the corridor opened, as two doctors and a nurse walked out. They had a solemn look on their faces, as they maintained the silence.

However, it was broken by the baby's cries, whom the nurse was carrying in her arms. She smiled at him, but there was a hint of sadness in that smile.

Jason, a middle-aged man with a small beard, stood up and came towards them, as his eyes shone with the last bit of hope. Unfortunately, he was bound to be disappointed, and he knew that by looking at the doctors' faces.

The doctor bowed lightly and said.

"We weren't able to save the mother, but the child is safe and sound."

"I knew it!!"

Jason's mother-in-law shrieked, as she pointed at the newborn baby with a face full of tears.

"That demon took away my daughter. He is cursed."

"Enough!"

Jason shouted, as he glared at his family members and said.

"He is my son and did nothing wrong. He just saw this world, and you all are already framing him as a demon? Have some shame."

However, Amanda wasn't having any of it as she screamed and even tried to get close to the newborn baby.

"Why can't you see? Ever since she became pregnant, she has been in many accidents."

It was true. Jason's wife had many small-to-big accidents over the span of the few months she carried the baby in her stomach. It was as if the world itself was trying to kill her and the new life coming into the world. n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om

Even after knowing all this, Jason couldn't bring himself to blame a newborn. He gritted his teeth, as his eyes turned red, and said.

"I don't want to hear any of this."

Saying that, he took the baby from the nurse's hands and looked at him. The baby also looked back at him with innocent orb-like eyes. Then, he giggled, as his small arms tried to reach for Jason.

A warm smile formed on Jason's face as he thought:

'Yeah. There is no way such an innocent soul can be cursed. You think the same, right, my dear?'

He blinked, as tears fell on the baby's cheek. Wiping them off, he said.

"Don't worry. I will always be there for you."

"I'm telling you, Jason. That soul is cursed."

Amanda cried out, as her husband struggled to keep her in check. She didn't know how or why, but she knew she needed to keep this cursed soul away from her family.

Her husband sighed and said, as he held her from her back.

"I know how you feel, but try to understand the situation. What would our daughter think if we abandon the child she gave her life for?"

Amanda looked back at him and growled.

"I'm not telling you to abandon him. I want him d—"

"Enough! You want to kill my son?"

Jason glared at Amanda, his eyes burning with fury as he carried his son in his arms.

"Try it and see what happens."

The corridor turned silent, as Jason marched out. He didn't want to stay here for a second, neither did he want the young soul to hear anything there.

As he walked towards the nursery, where he could have the child checked up, he said.

"Dear, you wanted to name him Rick, right?"

He kissed his son on his forehead and said.

"From now, you're Rick Conway."

Just like that, Rick Conway was born on a sad day. His birth killed his mother, and that made everyone apprehensive of his existence.

Sadly, he was born in a rural area, and everyone was too superstitious, so his existence was claimed to be cursed. It didn't help that after his birth, Jason's business began to go downhill.

There were occasional fights in the joint family, since his in-laws and parents lived together. He was still faring better and made sure Rick grew up in a good environment.

Unfortunately, he was a single human, so he couldn't be with his child all the time. Everyone treated the young child as if he wasn't even human.

The young innocent soul could never understand why they did that. Only his father smiled at him, so Rick always tried his best to cheer him up whenever he was sad.

He didn't know anything and just acted on his instincts. He felt a close bond with Jason and no one else, so he also always remained cheerful around him.

However, things just got worse when the town had an increase in deaths, and it was especially true in Jason's neighborhood. In the span of three years, twelve people died.

This fueled the rumors and made the whole town hate the Conway family. It got to such a point that Jason abandoned his business in town and ran away to the nearest city with Rick.

Rick witnessed everything, but his young mind couldn't comprehend it all. For him, he was just going away from those people who didn't like him. His father was with him, and he was happy with it.

Things started rather well for the father-son duo, as Jason found a job. It didn't pay much, but he was happy with his life. He even managed to send Rick to school.

Just when things began to turn for the better, just when Jason was getting his life set, it changed. His whole family, except his mother-in-law, died in a car accident when they were coming to the city to meet him.

His mind was in a mess after losing almost everyone he loved and cared about. It did no good when he lost his job too, after some men broke his arm for no reason.

Rick witnessed everything. He didn't know why, but he knew his father was going through a lot, so he made a lucky charm. Smiling, he went towards his father's room.

As his small figure reached the room, he overheard a shout and words that shattered his heart.

"He's a demon. I should have listened to her. It's because of me. They all died because of me. It's all my fault for keeping him. He's cursed. He brought nothing but chaos in my life."
